Job description:
Collage Day School is seeking a full-time in person, compassionate, dependable, and student-focused elementary school counselor to join our team. The position will teach school-wide and classroom social-emotional skills and character education. In addition, the elementary school counselor will provide short-term, goal-oriented individual and small-group counseling support, manage student scheduling, implement standard accommodations, and provide general academic support and progress monitoring. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and be comfortable helping students develop appropriate coping skills, communication skills, self-regulation, and positive behaviors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with teachers, school administrators, counselors, special education staff, and other members of the student-support team.
  • Provide individual and small-group behavioral and social-emotional support to elementary students.
  • Develop positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Assist students in developing emotional regulation, conflict-resolution, communication, and coping skills.
  • Support students during transitions, challenging situations, and other times when additional behavioral assistance is needed.
  • Implement behavior plans, support strategies, and individualized interventions based on student needs.
  • Monitor student behavior and document progress, concerns, and interventions as appropriate.
  • Communicate professionally and appropriately with parents and guardians regarding student progress and behavioral concerns.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, inclusive, and positive school culture.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students and families.
  • Follow all school policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties related to student support as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, school psychology, behavioral health, or a related field required.
  • Experience as a counselor or behavior specialist working with elementary-aged children preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong understanding of child development and positive behavior-support strategies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional when responding to challenging behaviors.
  • Must demonstrate sound judgment, reliability, and a genuine interest in helping children succeed.
