Full-Time About Saint Dominic Academy Founded in 1878 and sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell, Saint Dominic Academy is an independent, Catholic college-preparatory school empowering young women in grades 7-12. Located in the heart of Jersey City, SDA provides a diverse and supportive environment focused on academic excellence, spiritual growth, and leadership. Position Overview Saint Dominic Academy seeks a compassionate, dynamic, and collaborative School Counselor to support the social-emotional, academic, and personal development of our students in Grades 7-10. Grounded in our commitment to holistic education, the counselor will oversee student accommodations, drive student wellness programs, and serve as an integral member of the school's support and leadership structure.
Manage, implement, and track Individualized Student Plans (ISPs), 504 Plans, and instructional accommodations; collaborate with administration, faculty, parents, and external specialists to support student learning needs.
Crisis Intervention & Wellness:
Provide crisis intervention and mental health support; conduct initial risk assessments and follow school protocols to ensure a safe, supportive environment for all students.
HIB Protocol Compliance:
Oversee Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB) processes, investigations, and reporting in compliance with state guidelines and school policies.
Advisory Program Role:
Lead the Saint Dominic Academy Advisory Program—where students are paired with faculty advisors—by assisting with advisory topics, organizing resources, and guiding faculty on academic and student wellness concerns.
Student Leadership Supervision:
Serve as the faculty advisor for the SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) group, mentoring student leaders to promote healthy choices, peer support, and positive decision-making.
Committee Involvement:
Actively participate as a key member of the Threat Assessment Team and Student Support Team. Qualifications Master's Degree in School Counseling, School Psychology, or Social Work (MSW/LCSW). Valid State Certification as a School Counselor (or eligibility for New Jersey certification). Proven experience managing 504 plans, ISPs, and academic accommodations. Strong familiarity with New Jersey HIB laws, safety protocols, and crisis response strategies. Commitment to the mission, values, and traditions of Saint Dominic Academy.
Compensation Salary:
Starting at $50,000 annually (commensurate with experience and qualifications).
