Job Description

Peaceful Schools is expanding and seeking an experienced and dynamic youth development specialist to serve as a part-time Student Integration Specialist embedded in the Genesee Valley school setting. The Student Integration Specialist (SIS) role is grounded in the goal of helping young people access and leverage both the regular day and after-school program as a resource for pursuing their goals and interests. Seamlessly integrate into the school environment while representing Peaceful Schools with professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to success. A key function of this position is to support the alignment and coordination between regular day programming and after school/out of school time programming. The SIS will seek to bridge the connection between the academic school day and the extended school day programming. This position will work with elementary and secondary students and their stakeholders (faculty, parents/guardians, and administrators) to design and schedule extended school day programming that supports the students' academic and career goals. Plans will be student led and centered around student voice and choice. Ultimately, the work is designed as a whole child approach, aimed at improving academic engagement, providing opportunities to practice self-regulation skills, build confidence, explore creativity, build career readiness, and support consistent school attendance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversee the enrollment of all students in the Extended School Day program with an emphasis on at-risk students. Serve as the primary liaison between teachers and the extended school day activity. Create individualized extended school day plans and identify resources to support students who are targeted as "at-risk" for falling behind academically. Assist in the design of a needs-driven menu of high-quality programs and services in accordance with the Full-Service Community Schools model, including but not limited to the programs prescribed in the proposed local district project. Work with the afterschool project director to create systems or tools to collect individual student academic information to allow for the development of extended school day programming and support. Ensure an emotionally and physically safe environment for youth that adheres to all requisite building safety and violence prevention. Work with the district's care team (counseling and social work staff) to identify community-based services or resources to complement student needs. Be trained in and utilize the Check and Connect ® intervention techniques to guide social-emotional support and promote student goal setting and active school and program participation. Serve as the primary liaison between the student's caregivers and the district relative to extended school day programs. Participate in capacity-building activities, including site-based training, regional meetings, national conferences, or other opportunities as may be presented by the grantor or technical assistance centers. Execute other tasks as required to promote student, family, school, and project success.
Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records and submit monthly reports on services provided.
  • Timely completion of all required daily/weekly logs, required documentation, or status reports to ensure both compliance and quality assurance.
  • Immediately report all reportable activities/incidents including those learned in groups or meetings, etc.
to supervisor & building admin. contact person regarding reportable situations including but not limited to: Situations include violent acts, weapons possession, illegal substance use/sales, discrimination, and incidents meeting the threshold for police notification (e.g. nude photos) or suspension. If in doubt, report it. All reporting will be made via email.
  • Demonstrate professional judgement, interpersonal and organizational skills including a high degree of personal accountability for completing and documenting tasks in a timely manner.
  • Actively participate in Peaceful Schools staff trainings and meetings, as well as in select school-based trainings and meetings.

Qualifications:
Master's Degree preferred in Education, higher education, Psychology, Human Services or related field, and significant relevant experience of 8-10 years preferred. Experience in youth development, enrichment education or out of school time programming Experience supporting student led planning and goal setting preferred. Experience working in a K-12 setting preferred. Fingerprint and background clearance as required under Laws of New York 2001, Chapter 180, and its subsequent amendments. Computer and social media literate including basics in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and social media platforms such as but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
Valid NYS Driver's License Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Part-Time Hourly 25 hours per week for 46 weeks per year, following academic and summer school calendar for assigned site. 5 hours per day, overlapping with the regular day and after school program schedule Strict adherence to assigned schedule. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday as per assigned school building with the ability to report to company headquarters and other locations as assigned when school is not in session.
Attendance:
Due to the contractual obligations with the school district, this position requires consistent, punctual, and regular attendance. While daily on-site presence is generally expected, team members may be required to leave the worksite during the workday for approved work-related errands, meetings, trainings, deliveries, or other business. Employees are expected to maintain communication with their supervisor and follow established procedures when working off-site or away from their primary location.
Reliability:
Must be present, clocked in on time, and prepared to start work at all scheduled times and clocking out at end of work day.
Punctuality:
Maintain a consistent and reliable work schedule, arriving promptly to begin start of workday.
Notification:
Personally, notify the supervisor immediately if unable to report to work or needing to leave early adhering to the policy. Summer schedules & assigned location vary as determined by project needs.
  • Participation in Professional Development sessions, Open House and Curriculum night events, other essential school functions, and report to assigned location as determined by in collaboration with Peaceful Schools supervisor and local school district program coordinator.
  • Occasional telecommuting/remote work allowed with supervisor approval.
