POSITION SUMMARY
Serve as the Substance Abuse Prevention/Intervention Specialist (P/I) in the school setting. Responsibilities include providing substance abuse screenings, prevention education, intervention services to students, and working with staff, parents and community members.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide pre-screening/assessment and referral information to students who are impacted by alcohol, tobacco, or other drug (ATOD) use. Assess student needs and develop a student services plan. Coordinate, assist and participate in developing and conducting support group service for at-risk and/or harmfully involved with ATOD, recovery students, and children from unhealthy home environments. Participate as an integral member of the student assistance, core team, or other multi-disciplinary team at the school assigned. Provide staff development training in alcohol/drug use issues including prevention, intervention, recovery, and student assistance programming Provide prevention and early intervention awareness programs for staff, students, parents and community around ATOD prevention. Communicates and solicits assistance from county prevention officials, law enforcement personnel and related social service agencies that address substance abuse prevention. Provide information and guidance to parents on effective parenting strategies to support his/her child to be successful and make healthy choices Maintain confidential files, accurate record keeping, data collection and prepares reports as needed. Accurate data entry. Provide crisis intervention as needed.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Demonstrates ability to adjust to and use new approaches in the performance of his/her duties. Seeks and takes advantage of opportunities for professional growth and attend all required staff meetings, community meetings, and trainings per supervisor's direction. Staff are required to follow the Department of Licensing laws and regulations related to Washington State Professional Counselors and ethical guidelines established by National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Center. CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS A
degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Education or Human Services preferred. A combination of work experience and education will be considered. Current SUDP, SUDPT, or CPP certifications registered with the State of Washington. Two years of experience in the school setting or in community services working with youth Experience working in the substance abuse field preferred
REQUIRES KNOWLEDGE OF
Experience in prevention and intervention techniques for substance abusing adolescents and their families Experience in developing and conducting prevention awareness activities Experience in youth group facilitation, adolescent assessments and youth relapse prevention. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated skills in group facilitation and possess the ability to develop and conduct support groups Familiarity of prevention programs, best practices, and evidence-based service systems Demonstrated ability to develop and present ATOD issues to school staff, students, parents, and community. Good human relations and interpersonal skills. Experience in public schools
REQUIRES THE ABILITY TO
Ability to work and function as a team member Demonstrated ability to work with youth and families in individual, family and group settings. Demonstrated ability to work with school staff, including teachers, administrators, and non-classified staff Good organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines Competency in working with Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Demonstrated and successful experience in working with and collaborating with community agencies.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Current First aid/CPR certification National criminal background clearance required
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in an office environment in a school setting with extensive periods of time sitting. Lifts and carries a maximum of 20 pounds Adequate manual and finger dexterity, hearing, speech and vision are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position Salary range is $26.00 to $31.00 per hour, DOE.
