Job Description

Vocational Job Coach The Light House | LH Works | Southeastern Connecticut Full-time |
Monday-Friday Pay:
$20.00-$21.50/hr. Help people build the skills and confidence to succeed at work. The Light House is a nonprofit serving people with disabilities in Southeastern Connecticut. Our LH Works program helps job seekers prepare for, find, and maintain competitive employment in the community. We are hiring a Regional Employment Specialist to provide job coaching, employment readiness training, and outreach to local employers. This role is ideal for someone with experience supporting people with disabilities who enjoys teaching practical skills, building relationships, and working independently. What you'll do Help job seekers identify their strengths, interests, and career goals; assist with resumes, job applications, and interview preparation. Provide individualized, on-the-job coaching to help participants learn job tasks, understand workplace expectations, and maintain employment. Build relationships with local businesses to identify employment opportunities and support successful job placements. Plan and lead individual and group activities and workshops focused on job readiness, independent living skills, and workplace success. Travel throughout Southeastern Connecticut and transport participants in accordance with agency driving policies. Maintain timely, accurate documentation of participant goals, progress, attendance, and other required records. Communicate and collaborate with participants, families, employers, coworkers, and service teams to support individual goals. Protect participants' health, safety, dignity, and confidentiality, and recognize and report safety, medical, abuse, or neglect concerns. What you'll bring 1-2 years of experience working with individuals with intellectual, developmental, or physical disabilities. High school diploma/GED or an equivalent combination of education and related experience or training. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and follow through on responsibilities. Ability to adapt instruction to individual needs, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond appropriately to changing assignments. Comfort using basic technology and documentation systems. Valid Connecticut driver's license, acceptable driving history, and ability to use your personal vehicle to transport participants in accordance with agency policy.
Preferred:
An associate degree or relevant experience in human services is preferred. Experience in job coaching, employment support, leadership, or mentoring is also a plus. Training and certifications Required certifications include First Aid/CPR and PMT. The Light House pays for and coordinates required certifications and provides position-specific training. Schedule and work environment Full-time, Monday through Friday. Scheduled hours depend on program needs; availability between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. is required. This active, community-based role involves standing, walking, driving, occasional lifting, and assisting individuals with physical or behavioral support needs, including responding to crises using required training. Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Required employment screening includes fingerprinting, criminal background checks, and DDS/DCF abuse and neglect registry checks.
