Job Description
Overall Purpose
The Lead High School Counselor provides leadership, coordination, and support for high school counseling programs across the district, with an emphasis on academic and career planning, graduation requirements, postsecondary opportunities, and consistent student and parent processes. The Lead Counselor serves as a resource, coach, and liaison for high school counselors and administrators to promote consistent practices and ensure students and families receive accurate, timely information and support.
Essential Functions
Develop and support consistent districtwide counseling procedures, timelines, and expectations across all high schools.
Coordinate and provide guidance related to graduation requirements, graduation tracking, and senior completion processes.
Develop consistent senior processes and timelines across high schools to support graduation, postsecondary planning, scholarships, and required student and parent communication. Provide onboarding, mentoring, and coaching for new high school counselors to ensure understanding of district processes, expectations, timelines, and available resources. Support counselors with Dual Enrollment, including eligibility, registration processes, deadlines, communication, and coordination with postsecondary institutions.
Support and coordinate processes related to Advanced Placement (AP) opportunities, student participation, and communication with students and families.
Coordinate or support districtwide parent information nights related to graduation, Dual Enrollment, AP, postsecondary planning, financial aid, and other relevant topics.
Assist counselors in communicating and promoting scholarship opportunities, financial aid resources, and postsecondary opportunities.
Support consistent processes for college and career planning, including applications, transcripts, recommendations, and other postsecondary transition needs.
Monitor changes in state and district requirements that affect graduation, Dual Enrollment, AP, and postsecondary planning and communicate updates to counselors and administrators.
Assist with professional learning and onboarding for new high school counselors.
Perform other duties related to the coordination and continuous improvement of high school counseling programs as assigned.
Requirements
Valid Georgia professional certification in the assigned service field. Minimum of three years of recent experience as a high school counselor is preferred.
Strong knowledge of Georgia graduation requirements, Dual Enrollment, AP programs, college and career readiness, and postsecondary planning.
Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, collaborate, and develop consistent processes across multiple schools.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.
