Job Description

Position Title:
Shelter Hotline Advocate-Flex (Monday-Wednesday, however additional support may be required on other days and times)
Organization Overview:
Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence (NEGACDV) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization and our mission is to support victims of domestic violence and their families through intervention, prevention & education. NEGACDV provides emergency shelter, crisis counseling, case management, support/educational groups, advocacy, therapy, Nurturing Parenting classes, life skills, criminal justice support, emergency legal advocacy, assistance completing safety plans and compensation claims, and information/referral. In addition, the agency operates a non-profit thrift store with proceeds supporting client services.
Role Summary:
As a member of the Shelter team, the Shelter Hotline Advocate provides support to guests in the emergency shelter as well as hotline coverage.
Reporting Structure:
This position is supervised by the Shelter Manager. The Shelter Hotline Advocate does not supervise any staff.
Classification:
FLSA Nonexempt, 24 hours/week. This position is based at the agency's shelter and is an on-site (non-remote) position.
Responsibilities:
 Provide individual case management services to clients including establishing case files, conducting intake and assessment, providing crisis intervention and information/referral advocacy.  Answer the 24/7 hotline and teen text line.  Plan and implement programs for clients.  Advocate for client services with other service providers.  Assist with daily operations at the shelter.  Maintain program statistics and other information required by funders.  Participate in required meetings and trainings.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of an Associate's degree in the field of social work, counseling, and/or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and be on call .
  • Experience in human services, with demonstrated initiative, compassion, and awareness of self.
  • Knowledge and skills indirect (individual and group) services, including effective communication; crisis intervention; knowledge of homelessness, domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health issues; and community resources .
  • Strong organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds including client interactions.
  • Ability to work in Microsoft Office as well as client services databases.
  • Applicants must currently have a valid GA or SC driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Applicants must pass a background and fingerprint check as required by funders and possess or be willing to acquire CPR/First Aid Certification and a Food Handler's certificate.
  • Applicants must have the physical ability to climb stairs, and carry up to 30 lbs.
