The Victims Assistance Center is dedicated to supporting all members of our community impacted by violence and crime. Through compassion and unwavering emotional support, we provide a safe haven where people can rebuild their lives. We envision a community free of violence and crime while promoting safe spaces for healing and hope. The Case Manager provides direct services to victims and/or their non-offending family members of sexual abuse, sexual assault, commercial sexual exploitation of a child and sexual harassment. These services include but are not limited to: advocacy, New York State Office of Victim Services compensation information and application assistance, supportive counseling, intake, information, referral, paperwork for orders of protection & custody, court accompaniment, and interfacing with the Criminal Justice, Social Services, medical and mental health providers in our community. The Case Manager will assist in creating and managing a coordinated sexual assault response within the community. as well as provide prevention education to students, professionals, and community members on the topics of sexual assault, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and healthy relationships.
Job Responsibilities:
Assist in the planning and implementation of activities developed by members of the local partnered agencies in our coordinated community response to Sexual Assault. Complete client intakes, administer screening tools, and set up provisional treatment for the victim and/or non-offending family members; Oversee coordination of the care of the victim in response to a variety of challenges and needs that arise from victimization; Work with clients to manage the immediate and long-term necessities of crime victims related to medical, legal, mental health, criminal justice, social services, advocacy, housing, clothing, food, transportation, immigration, financial and employment needs, among others; Prepare timely, accurate, and professional reports and distribute them to MDT member(s) requesting the report; Facilitate multidisciplinary pre/post interview case staffing, as needed; Assist in identifying client needs and provide recommendations to investigators, child protective services, prosecutors, and medical personnel; Participate in multidisciplinary team case review meetings and provide case information to include the CAC case review meetings, Safe Harbour Critical Team meetings, etc.; Respond to subpoenas and testify in court, when requested; Maintain an awareness of current trends, research and developments in the field of child welfare, sexual victimization and sexual exploitation; Ensure that data from services provided is entered into the appropriate program database; Provide public awareness and education presentations to inform crime victims of their rights, help identify crime victims and increase access to services; Provide Prevention education to school systems in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties using an approved curriculum regarding healthy relationships and personal safety. Provide Prevention education to professionals, community service groups and community members that includes but is not limited to safe intimate partner relationships, sexual harassment, sexual harassment in the workplace, sexual abuse, sexual assault, and services available to survivors. Maintain records and collect statistics as required. Participate in supervision, professional development and on-going training activities; Must be willing to travel throughout the 3 county region (Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence) for meetings, trainings, to make presentations, and to meet with families at CAC satellite offices, if necessary; Perform other related duties as directed by the CAC Lead Advocate, CAC Program Director or Executive Director.
Job Requirements:
Must be able to work well and communicate with adults and children of diverse ages, races, and backgrounds. Must be able to work in stressful situations and utilize self-care methods. Must be able to deal with a variety of emotions under stressful situations and be able to work with people who may be very upset. Must be able to meet on-call requirements. Must be able to work with a variety of people, including clients, families and professionals. Must possess strong organizational and communication skills. Must have the ability to work well with co-workers and multidisciplinary team members. Must be able to adapt well to the structure and environment of the VAC and satellite offices.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis on human services, social work, criminal justice, education, or related field, preferred Professional experience in working with the criminal justice and child welfare systems preferred. Must be able to travel out-of-town for training or other work-related purposes on occasion. Must have a reliable vehicle that can be utilized for work. Must maintain personal automobile insurance with a liability coverage limit of $100,000/$300,000. Must have a valid driver's license. Full time, in person.
