Pay:
$20.00 per hour Job description: Social Services Director/Medicare Information Assistance and Awareness (MIAA)
Counselor Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide person-centered unbiased counseling and enrollment assistance to Medicare beneficiaries, families, and their caregivers.
  • Prepare statistical reports.
  • Answer request and provide information and education on a wide variety of services.
  • Programs and benefits available to the elderly and their families in assessing and screening for assistance.
  • Maintain all DEA and client records
  • Compile and provide community resource information and referrals.
  • Answer telephone, written, and in person request for information.
  • Submit articles for the monthly newsletter.
  • Schedule social service programs/seminars
  • Advocate for the elderly with various information Educate Medicare beneficiaries on Medicare-related issues including Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, and Medicaid.
  • Assist with enrollment into Medicare Part D, Medicare Advantage, and other Medical Assistance programs selected by the Medicare beneficiary.
  • Assists Medicare beneficiaries to help them resolve issues relating to their Medicare.
  • Promotes awareness of the
SHIP/SMP/MIPPA
programs by conducting group and/or media outreach events and distribute materials.
  • Educate, determine eligibility, and assist Medicare beneficiaries with applying for Medicare assistance programs such as: Social Security Extra Help program, the state's Medicare Premium Payment Program (MPP), and Medicaid applications ensuring proper submission to the appropriate agency.
  • Educate Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse.
  • Conduct program presentations and as requested to groups, exhibit at events, and community partners regarding ways to prevent, detect, and report potential Medicare fraud.
  • Attend all required trainings, meetings, and webinars.
  • Assist the Director and Assistant Director in all other activities as requested.
Experience & Qualifications:
Minimum of four years of college with focus on Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or Human Relations. Five years of experience working with seniors, senior agencies, older adults and/or adults with disabilities. Five years of experience in human services and social services Or combination of education and experience equivalent to requirements listed above.
  • Possess strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and/or other health insurance plans, with a willingness and ability to learn and understand the complexities of Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Complete required certifications and trainings within one (1) month of hire.
  • Possess strong computer skills, including data entry proficiency, Microsoft Office applications, and experience using various computer systems and databases.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with partner agencies and service providers.
  • Willingness to comply with all policies and administration procedures established by the programs to ensure client confidentiality.
  • Ability to remain objective and impartial while providing information, without recommending or endorsing specific health insurance plans.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently, effectively manage multiple tasks, and consistently meet established deadlines.
