Job Description

St. Vincent de Paul in Monroe is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families throughout our community during times of need. Through our Friends In Need assistance program, we help individuals and families navigate unexpected hardships by providing support with housing expenses, utilities, food, clothing, transportation, and other essential needs. We believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. We are looking for someone who shares these values and wants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Position Overview The Part-Time Intake & Assistance Coordinator plays an important role in our mission by working directly with our Friends In Need who are seeking assistance during difficult times. The majority of this position involves meeting with individuals and families, conducting interviews, listening to their situations, reviewing applications, and helping determine what resources or assistance may be available to them. The most important part of this role is the ability to make people feel welcomed, heard, respected, and comfortable sharing their circumstances without fear of judgment. Many of the individuals who walk through our doors are experiencing stressful or overwhelming situations. We are looking for someone who can offer a compassionate ear, ask thoughtful questions, maintain confidentiality, and help people feel that they are not alone. In addition to intake and assistance responsibilities, this position will help coordinate and operate our monthly Mobile Food Pantry, which serves individuals and families in our community. Key Responsibilities Meet with Friends In Need to discuss their circumstances and determine their assistance needs. Conduct intake interviews and review applications for financial and other forms of assistance. Listen with compassion, patience, and understanding while treating every individual with dignity and respect. Help applicants understand available resources, assistance guidelines, and next steps. Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential records of applications, interviews, and assistance provided. Communicate professionally and compassionately with individuals and families experiencing financial hardship. Follow established organizational policies and assistance procedures. Coordinate and assist with the monthly Mobile Food Pantry, including volunteer coordination, setup, distribution, and cleanup. Work collaboratively with St. Vincent de Paul staff and volunteers to support our mission. Assist with additional administrative or program-related duties as needed. Qualifications & Skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills. A compassionate, patient, and nonjudgmental approach when working with people from different backgrounds and circumstances. Ability to listen carefully and build trust with individuals who may be experiencing difficult or emotional situations. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive personal and financial information appropriately. Comfortable conducting interviews, asking questions, reviewing documentation, and maintaining records. Ability to work independently while also collaborating with staff and volunteers. Reliable attendance and flexibility to meet the required Mobile Food Pantry schedule. Basic computer skills, including email, data entry, and document management. Previous experience in social services, nonprofit organizations, customer service, case management, administrative work, or community assistance is beneficial but not necessarily required. We value compassion, professionalism, reliability, and a genuine desire to help others. Work Schedule Regular office hours are:
Tuesday:
9:00 AM-2:00
PM Wednesday:
9:00 AM-2:00
PM Thursday:
9:00 AM-2:00
PM Friday:
9:00 AM-2:00 PM The position also requires availability on the third Thursday of each month from 1:00 PM-4:30 PM to assist with the Mobile Food Pantry, including setup and cleanup. This additional commitment extends beyond the regular office schedule. What Makes This Position Special? This is more than an office position. It is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of people in our community. You may be meeting with someone who is worried about keeping a roof over their family's head, paying an unexpected bill, or making ends meet. Your ability to listen, show compassion, and help connect them with assistance can make a meaningful difference during one of the hardest times in their life. At St. Vincent de Paul, we believe helping people starts with making them feel valued. We are looking for someone who understands that sometimes the most important thing we can offer is a safe, welcoming place and someone willing to listen. If you are compassionate, dependable, organized, and passionate about serving your community, we would love to hear from you!
