CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps members serve with local nonprofits, schools, and community organizations throughout central Pennsylvania to address community needs in Healthy Futures, Education, Volunteer Management, and Community Service. In this AmeriCorps service position, you will serve with Sunbury's Revitalization Inc. in Sunbury, Pennsylvania , helping plan and coordinate community events, engage volunteers and community members, promote local activities, and support efforts that strengthen and revitalize downtown Sunbury. Sunbury's Revitalization Inc. (SRI) is dedicated to strengthening the economic vitality, appearance, and sense of community within downtown Sunbury. Through community engagement, events, beautification efforts, and collaborative partnerships, SRI works to create a vibrant downtown that benefits residents, visitors, and local organizations. This is not a traditional employment position. It is an AmeriCorps national service commitment. Members receive a living allowance and benefits while serving and may earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award after successfully completing their service term. What You'll Do Your service will focus on planning and supporting community events, engaging volunteers and local partners, promoting community participation, and helping strengthen downtown Sunbury. As the Community Events & Engagement Coordinator, you will: Help plan, coordinate, and implement at least six community events during the service term Coordinate event details including vendors, entertainers, permits, equipment, volunteers, and site layouts Develop event timelines, planning tools, and implementation checklists Recruit, engage, and coordinate volunteers for community events Collaborate with local organizations, residents, community groups, and municipal partners Help create promotional materials and event marketing campaigns Support social media communications and website updates related to events Draft event announcements, press releases, and community outreach materials Promote community participation and volunteer involvement Help activate downtown spaces through inclusive community programming Participate in community outreach events and meetings Build relationships with artists, vendors, nonprofits, and other community partners Help identify opportunities to strengthen community engagement and downtown revitalization Assist with post-event evaluations and track event and volunteer participation The formal position also includes limited event sustainability and sponsorship support, capped at no more than 10% of total service hours and subject to AmeriCorps requirements. You will serve under the supervision of Sunbury's Revitalization Inc. staff. This position supports and expands the organization's existing services and does not replace employees or existing volunteer roles. Your Service Commitment Full-Time AmeriCorps Service Term September 2026 - August 2027 1,700 service hours Approximately 37.5 hours per week Typical service hours are:
Monday:
11:00 AM-7:00
PM Tuesday-Thursday:
9:00 AM-5:00
PM Friday:
Work from home, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM Some evening and weekend service will be required for community events and other programming.
Service Location:
Sunbury's Revitalization Inc. 450 Chestnut Street Sunbury, PA 17801 Some local travel may be required for community events and partner meetings. Certain approved service activities may also be completed remotely with prior written approval. Living Allowance & Benefits AmeriCorps members are not employees of the service site and do not receive a traditional salary. Members receive a living allowance to help cover expenses during their term of service.
Living Allowance:
$21,415 , distributed throughout the service term
Segal AmeriCorps Education Award:
$7,395 upon successful completion of service Members may also be eligible for: Health insurance/health care coverage for eligible full-time members who do not otherwise have adequate coverage Student loan forbearance on qualifying federal student loans Payment of accrued interest on qualifying student loans during service Potential eligibility for the AmeriCorps Childcare Benefit Program CPR & First Aid certification CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps orientation and training Professional development, networking, and community engagement opportunities What You'll Learn Along the Way The primary purpose of this position is service , but members also gain hands-on experience through the work they perform. During your service term, you may develop experience in: Event planning and logistics Community engagement Volunteer recruitment and coordination Public relations and marketing Social media and communications Community outreach Partnership development Event promotion Data collection and evaluation Nonprofit operations Community development and revitalization Who We're Looking For You do not need extensive professional experience to serve.
Applicants must:
Have a high school diploma or equivalent Be able to successfully complete required National Service Criminal History Checks Have strong communication and organizational skills Have strong time management skills Be comfortable working with diverse groups and representing SRI in the community Be comfortable communicating with volunteers, community members, vendors, and local partners Be available to serve some evenings and weekends for events Be willing to receive feedback and work as part of a team Be able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries Be committed to community service and the AmeriCorps mission Be proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are preferred. Experience or education in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, event planning, or a related field is helpful but not required. Familiarity with Sunbury and surrounding communities and experience with graphic design, ticketing, or social media platforms are also preferred. Because this is an active, community-based service position, applicants should also be comfortable assisting with event setup and transporting event materials as needed.
