CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps members serve with local nonprofits, schools, and community organizations throughout central Pennsylvania to address community needs in Healthy Futures, Education, Volunteer Management, and Community Service. In this full-time AmeriCorps service position, you will serve with Susquehanna Valley United Way in Sunbury, Pennsylvania , helping individuals and families connect with community resources and strengthening awareness of services available throughout the region. Susquehanna Valley United Way works with local agencies and community partners to improve financial stability, health, and access to essential services. The organization places a particular emphasis on supporting ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households , or households that earn above the federal poverty level but still struggle to afford basic necessities. This is not a traditional employment position . It is a full-time AmeriCorps national service commitment. Members receive a living allowance and benefits while serving and may earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award after successfully completing their service term. What You'll Do Your service will focus on helping community members learn about and connect with resources that may be available to them. As the Community Resource & ALICE Outreach Coordinator, you will: Welcome community members looking for information about local resources Help individuals identify community services and referral options based on their needs Maintain and update information about local service providers, assistance programs, and referral agencies Help create and distribute community resource guides and educational materials Support outreach efforts that increase awareness of the United Way's ALICE initiative Participate in community events promoting available programs and services Help strengthen relationships with local nonprofits, service providers, and referral agencies Assist with community outreach events and volunteer engagement Track outreach activities, community contacts, and resource referrals Help evaluate outreach efforts and identify ways to improve access to community resources You will serve under the supervision of United Way staff. This position supports and expands the organization's existing services and does not replace staff or independently provide case management or counseling. Your Service Commitment Full-Time AmeriCorps Service Term August 2026 - August 2027 1,700 service hours
Typical Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM Approximately 37.5 hours per week
Service Location:
Susquehanna Valley United Way 228 Arch Street Sunbury, PA 17801 Minimal travel may be required. This position also allows certain approved service activities to be completed remotely with prior written approval. Living Allowance & Benefits AmeriCorps members are not employees of the service site and do not receive a traditional salary. Members receive a living allowance to help cover expenses during their term of service.
Living Allowance:
$21,415, distributed throughout the service term
Segal AmeriCorps Education Award:
$7,395 upon successful completion of service Full-time members may also be eligible for: Health coverage if they do not otherwise have adequate coverage Student loan forbearance on qualifying federal student loans Payment of accrued interest on qualifying loans during service Childcare assistance for qualifying members CPR & First Aid certification CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps orientation and training Professional development, networking, and community engagement opportunities What You'll Learn Along the Way The primary purpose of this position is service , but members also gain hands-on experience through the work they perform. During your service term, you may develop experience in: Community resource navigation Community outreach and engagement Partnership development Volunteer engagement Public speaking and communication Community needs assessment Data collection and reporting Program evaluation Poverty-informed service Nonprofit and community service programming Members may also receive training in community resource navigation, the ALICE framework, trauma-informed communication, outreach strategies, professional communication, confidentiality, and other topics related to their service. Who We're Looking For You do not need a college degree or extensive professional experience to serve.

Have a high school diploma or equivalent Have a valid driver's license Have reliable personal transportation Be able to successfully complete required National Service Criminal History Checks Have an interest in community service and nonprofit programming Have strong interpersonal and communication skills Be able to interact respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds Have strong organizational skills and attention to detail Be comfortable speaking with community members and community partners Have basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and email Be able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries Be willing to receive feedback and work as part of a team What Success Looks Like Your service will help
