We are seeking an energetic and dedicated Director of Children & Youth Ministries of Oregon United Methodist Church to lead and inspire our faith community's youngest members and their families.
Skills and Qualifications:
Ability to relate to children and youth and be able to teach them about Christ Possess knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development and skill level Be in relationship with children, youth, and their families. Seek out and meet with youth and children, sharing their joys and concerns, and challenging their spiritual growth. Minister to their needs and make appropriate care referrals when necessary Creative and organized Verbal and written communication skills Self-starter who can work independently but also possess skills to work in a team setting Previous understanding of or commitment to immediately learning United Methodist traditions and profession of the Christian faith Possess a willingness to be a lifelong learner in skills and faith journey Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to recruit and develop effective volunteers
Responsibilities:
Christian Education Foster a learning atmosphere for children to grow in their understanding and relationship with the Holy Trinity Work cooperatively with the education team to choose curriculum With the education team, recruit volunteers for the Sunday school and VBS programs In conjunction with worship and education, create a program year calendar of events Inform volunteers of Safe Gathering training and gather background checks Create and distribute SS teaching schedule for program year Support the volunteer who leads the Christmas Program Continue to ensure that children are considered and included within the life of the church Inform families of the weekly events through private Facebook group and Messenger groups Youth Ministry Foster a learning environment for youth to continue to grow in their relationships with the Holy Trinity, an atmosphere that encourages curiosity and research Encourage and coordinate outreach ministry opportunities, such as: summer mission trip, local service, recruit teen volunteers for ministry events, recruit and train adult volunteer team members, implement confirmation program, develop and facilitate youth group gatherings, manage the private youth Facebook page and Snapchat group, continue to ensure that youth are considered and included within the life of the church. Family Ministry In conjunction with Pastor and education team, plan and implement activities for families to attend Other duties Attend weekly staff meetings, worship services, monthly Church Council and education meetings Be in constant effective communication with Pastor and office admin for congregational communications Willingness to be involved in a continuing ed opportunity (i.e. Lay Leader training) Hours of service: Part-time position: 20 hours per week. Time may vary considerably week to week (i.e. mission trip responsibilities, VBS prep and implementation, preparing and implementing special ministry opportunities, etc.)
