Literacy Volunteers of Morris County (LVMC), a nonprofit organization established in 1987, provides free, individualized, confidential tutoring to adult Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and those seeking to improve their ability to read and write or obtain their high school equivalency diploma. With more than 200 trained and supported volunteer tutors, LVMC currently serves 400 adults throughout Morris County, NJ through one-to-one tutoring, classes, and conversation groups. Tutoring is conducted both in person and remotely.
LVMC believes that the ability to read, write, comprehend and speak English is essential for personal freedom and the sustainability of a democratic society. Our mission is to provide free instruction to Morris County adults in literacy, English fluency and American culture.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a passionate leader to direct efforts that help adults build English language proficiency, workforce readiness, and life skills, empowering them to engage more fully with their community and improve their quality of life. The ideal Executive Director is an energetic, visionary leader with the creativity and strategic acumen to guide the organization forward. This person is a confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills, a positive and enthusiastic attitude, and a collaborative leadership style. They should exercise excellent judgment and discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information, deliver exceptional service to those they serve, and approach challenges as a resourceful, solutions-oriented problem-solver. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree At least 2 years of experience as Executive Director of a nonprofit organization, or 5 years of experience in a leadership role within an organization Genuine interest in promoting adult literacy and compassion for the challenges faced by adult learners Excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrated leadership ability, with strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to implement programs effectively Ability to work effectively with diverse groups Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, and general internet use Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends Additional Preferred Qualifications Experience in adult education, literacy, ESOL, nonprofit management, or volunteer program coordination Experience with social media platforms (e.g., Constant Contact, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) and website management Familiarity with QuickBooks or similar accounting software For a full job description, visit http://matchnpc.com/careers
