Job Description

Part-time High School Independent Learning & Study Hall Coordinator Non- Exempt / 10 month / Part-time position Reports to:
High School Director Hours:
M, T, TH 11-5

Windermere Preparatory School is seeking an Independent Learning & Study Hall Coordinator to oversee High School Private Study and support our after-school Learning Commons. The role is focused on creating a safe, purposeful and supportive environment where students use their time effectively, develop strong study habits and take increasing responsibility for their own learning. This role is not expected to replace the classroom teacher or specialist tutor, but should help students become increasingly confident and independent learners.
Key Responsibilities:
Private Study
  • Supervise High School private study periods and maintain a calm, productive learning environment.
  • Record accurate attendance and follow up appropriately on missing or absent students.
  • Establish clear expectations for behavior, technology and effective use of study time.
  • Encourage organization, responsibility and positive independent-learning habits.
  • Address minor concerns and communicate recurring attendance, engagement or behavioral issues to the appropriate High School team. Learning Commons & Homework Club
  • Oversee designated after-school Study Hall/Homework Club sessions.
  • Create an environment supporting quiet study, collaborative work, revision and project-based learning.
  • Help students organize priorities, manage their time and access appropriate academic resources.
  • Encourage students to use the Learning Commons for homework, revision, personal projects and exploration of their interests.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision while promoting student independence. Academic Support
  • Provide a supervised environment for revision and preparation for assessments.
  • Support students in developing effective study and independent-learning strategies.
  • Liaise with teachers when students require additional resources or direction.
  • Where required, supervise make-up assessments in accordance with teacher instructions and school procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Previous experience in education, student supervision, tutoring, mentoring, youth work, coaching, libraries or after-school programs
  • Enjoys working with High School students and builds positive, respectful relationships.
  • Ability to remain calm, confident and comfortable supervising groups of adolescents.
  • Can establish clear expectations while remaining approachable and supportive.
  • Organized, reliable and able to maintain accurate attendance and records.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills and sound professional judgment.
  • Is comfortable using basic school technology and digital systems.
  • Understands that effective Study Hall should be productive, not simply quiet.
  • Values student independence, curiosity, creativity and personal responsibility.
All candidates must meet WPS employment, background-check and safeguarding requirements and follow all school procedures relating to student welfare, confidentiality and child protection. .
