Job Description

Albany Elementary School Social Worker / School Counselor Position Summary Albany Elementary School is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and student-centered School Social Worker/School Counselor to join our team. This full-time position provides social, emotional, behavioral, and academic support to elementary students while partnering closely with families, teachers, administrators, and community resources. The ideal candidate will build positive relationships with students and families, support students in developing healthy social-emotional skills, and help create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed. Responsibilities Provide individual and small-group counseling and support to students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, family, or academic challenges. Develop and implement age-appropriate social-emotional learning activities and interventions. Support students in developing skills related to emotional regulation, coping strategies, friendship, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and positive decision-making. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, special education staff, and other school professionals to identify student needs and develop appropriate supports and interventions. Partner with parents and guardians to address concerns and connect families with appropriate school and community resources. Provide crisis intervention and support for students experiencing challenging or emergency situations. Assist with behavioral interventions and student support plans. Participate in student support teams, problem-solving meetings, and other collaborative school-based teams. Advocate for students and families and help remove barriers that may impact student attendance, engagement, well-being, or academic success. Provide classroom lessons, small-group activities, and presentations related to social-emotional learning and student well-being. Maintain accurate and confidential student records and documentation in accordance with district policies and applicable laws. Collaborate with community agencies and service providers when appropriate to support students and families. Participate in school and district committees, professional development, and school-wide initiatives. Stay informed of current best practices related to school counseling, school social work, mental health, trauma-informed practices, and student support services. Perform other duties as assigned to support students and the overall needs of Albany Elementary School. Qualifications Master's degree in School Counseling, Social Work, or a related field . Valid Minnesota licensure as a School Counselor or School Social Worker , as applicable to the candidate's professional area. Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred. Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students, families, and staff. Knowledge of child development, social-emotional learning, counseling techniques, behavioral interventions, crisis response, and conflict resolution. Ability to recognize student and family needs and connect them with appropriate resources and supports. Knowledge of applicable educational laws, confidentiality requirements, and professional ethical standards. Commitment to creating a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Strong organizational, documentation, and technology skills.
