Job Description

Position Summary The Nutrition Worker / Childcare Floater supports the daily operations of the childcare center by preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks while providing classroom assistance as needed. This role helps maintain a safe, clean, and engaging environment for children and ensures compliance with food service, health, safety, and childcare regulations. Key Responsibilities Nutrition & Food Service Prepare and assist in the preparation of meals and snacks for children and staff. Plan and maintain daily and weekly menus in accordance with program nutritional requirements and federal guidelines. Assemble food items and ingredients according to recipes and portion control standards. Heat and prepare food to proper temperatures while ensuring food safety standards are maintained. Serve meals and meal components to children and staff in accordance with established guidelines. Replenish food items and supplies as needed during meal service. Label, store, and properly dispose of excess food in compliance with food safety regulations. Operate kitchen equipment including ovens, microwaves, warmers, steamers, dishwashers, coolers, racks, carts, and other food service equipment. Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and work areas. Ensure compliance with all sanitation, food safety, health, and regulatory requirements. Follow established procedures and instructions for food preparation and service. Assist with inventory management and supply organization as needed. Childcare Floater Support Provide classroom coverage during staff absences, breaks, and high-demand periods. Actively supervise children to ensure safety and well-being. Assist with daily routines including meals, hygiene, toothbrushing, toileting, and naptime. Support classroom activities, transitions, and lesson implementation. Maintain clean, organized, and safe classroom environments. Foster positive interactions and age-appropriate engagement with children. Additional Responsibilities Follow all center policies, procedures, and safety requirements. Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff. Comply with attendance expectations and established call-in procedures. Participate in training and professional development activities as required. Assist in other operational areas assigned to support efficient center operations. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Experience in childcare, food service, or early childhood education preferred. Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and child development principles preferred. Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills. Ability to adapt to changing classroom and operational needs. Demonstrated patience, dependability, and a positive attitude. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to work in both kitchen and classroom environments. Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors. Work Environment The position works in a childcare center environment and requires regular movement between kitchen, classroom, playground, and common areas. The role involves exposure to food preparation equipment, cleaning supplies, and active childcare settings.
