Contingent University Pediatricians (UP) serves as the practice plan for the Department of Pediatrics at Central Michigan University College of Medicine. UP is affiliated with Children's Hospital of Michigan. University Pediatricians is an IRS recognized 501c3 not-for-profit Corporation and serves all patients regardless of ability to pay. Our mission is to provide essential access to care for a significant population of children with chronic illnesses within Michigan and the surrounding region. Ensuring that University Pediatricians can continue to serve our patient population is a key element to our contracting strategy. University Pediatricians is currently looking for an experienced Counselor to work contingent in the division of Adolescent Addiction Recovery Center, Troy, MI.
Position Purpose:
Adolescent substance abuse treatment program at Children's Hospital of Michigan, Troy providing out-patient clinical based individual treatment. Counselors will conduct assessments as well as treatment plans and deliver patient and family-focused therapy. Therapeutic modalities will be based on acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, and various family therapies. Therapists will work closely with and under the supervision of the director. Create an accepting and safe environment where individual's values are supported and internal motivation is reinforced to help move patients along the treatment continuum.
Qualifications:
Licensed professional in the State of Michigan. Three years of experience working with children and/or adolescents and Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor are required. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to providers and/or employees of organization. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid LMSW or LPC license in the state of Michigan. CAADC is preferred. If not certified, must be willing to work towards certification.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Conduct bio-psycho-social assessments for youth struggling with substance use disorders. 2. Identify and diagnose substance use disorders and other co-occurring mental health disorders. 3. Provide patient-focused treatment with a primary treatment modality rooted in acceptance and commitment therapy and motivational interviewing. 4. Conduct individual therapy sessions. 5. Responsible for initial assessments, as well as follow up assessments for patients. 6. Prepare an individual treatment plan for each assigned patient. 7. Ensure all documentation regarding patient care, treatment and incidents is completed timely and in a clear and concise manner. 8. May act as a liaison between referral sources, insurance carriers and patients and as a liaison. 9. Provide crisis intervention to patients, as needed. 10. Plan for aftercare for assigned patients. 11. Provide case management duties for patients. 12. Evaluate patient needs and determine if referrals to other programs or facilities are needed.
Working Conditions:
1. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds with or without assistance. 2. Able to complete duties under stress, deadlines, and while attending to multiple duties simultaneously. 3. Prolonged computer related exposure, as well as sitting and standing at workstations for long periods of time. 4. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 5. Bending, sitting, and standing frequently throughout the day. 6. Occasionally travel off-site for meetings, conferences, seminars, and training.
