Family Support Specialist Full-Time | 37-40 hours per week The Ohio County Family Resource Network implements several programs including the Ohio County Family Support Center. What does a typical day at the Ohio County Family Support Center look like? That depends! Our work focuses on partnering with parents and helping families build the strengths and supports they need to care for their children. Services include individualized family support, mobility coaching, skill-building activities, family events, parenting programs, and concrete supports. The Family Support Specialist is a full-time, direct-service position that works closely with families enrolled in the Ohio County Family Support Center. This position serves as a primary point of contact for families, completes intake and eligibility screening, provides mobility coaching and resource navigation, maintains regular contact with participants, and ensures accurate documentation of services. This is a hands-on position with significant daily interaction with families by phone, email, and in person. Primary Responsibilities Family Intake, Screening & Enrollment Answer incoming calls, respond to emails, and assist walk-in families. Use established screening procedures to determine eligibility for Family Support Center emergency assistance. Complete family intakes, enrollment paperwork, assessments, and required eligibility documentation. Explain available services, programs, and participation expectations. Identify immediate needs and help families determine appropriate next steps. Family Support, Mobility Coaching & Resource Navigation Manage a caseload of families with varying levels of need and participation. Some are monthly while others are weekly or twice a month. Provide individualized mobility coaching to help families identify strengths, barriers, goals, and steps toward greater stability and self-sufficiency using established time frames for follow ups. Initiate regular follow-up contact with families by phone and maintain ongoing communication based on family need. Connect families with community resources and services and provide advocacy when needed. Regularly reassess family needs and progress and adjust plans as appropriate. Documentation & Data Management Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential client records. Document calls, meetings, referrals, assistance provided, mobility coaching, goals, and other client interactions. Enter required information and outcomes into databases and client files. Track family progress and ensure records remain current and complete. Parent Engagement, Events & Activities Coordinate approximately one family event and one skill-building activity each month with support from other Family Support Center staff. Gather parent input when planning activities and services. Recruit and encourage families to participate in FSC programs, workshops, groups, events, surveys, and other opportunities. Communicate with families regarding registrations, reminders, and follow-up. Work collaboratively with staff on event preparation and implementation. Community Collaboration Maintain positive working relationships with agencies, schools, government programs, and other community resources. Communicate with service providers as needed to coordinate support for families. Attend community meetings, outreach activities, and resource fairs when appropriate. Represent the Family Support Center professionally in interactions with families, partners, and the community. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, health sciences, education, public administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. At least one year of case management or related direct-service experience. Experience working with children, families, or vulnerable populations preferred. Strong communication skills and comfort interacting with families by phone and in person throughout the workday. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple families, deadlines, contacts, and documentation requirements. Strong computer and data-entry skills. Ability to work independently within established policies while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Ability to establish rapport while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Empathy, patience, good judgment, and a nonjudgmental approach to working with families. Knowledge of community resources preferred. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Supervision Reports to the Family Support Center Director. Following training and orientation, the employee is expected to independently manage their caseload and routine responsibilities within established Family Support Center policies and procedures. This position does not include supervisory responsibilities. Schedule & Special Requirements Primary schedule is Monday through Friday. Must have flexibility to work occasional evenings and up to one Saturday per month based on Family Support Center programs and events. Occasional travel for training or meetings may be required. 37-40 hours per week, $18/hr. As a small organization, we do not have the ability to offer health insurance but do provide a monthly health care stipend ($150/month). PTO and flexible schedule.
