Job Description

Summary Working alongside the Lead Pastor, the Bi-vocational Associate Pastor supports the congregation in carrying out SBCA's mission and vision. Focused on disciple-making, building strong relationships, and equipping volunteers, this role provides spiritual guidance and pastoral leadership to guide believers in holistic spiritual growth. We are a river, not a reservoir. The Great Commission mandates that we GO and make disciples. We train, encourage, and support our church members to be sent out. In partnership with the lead pastor, primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following: Leadership Equip, encourage, and disciple volunteers with vision, resources, and pastoral care. Nurture healthy ministry teams. Identify and mentor emerging leaders. Help oversee ministry leaders and teams: Elders, Board of Governance, Deacons, Sunday school teachers, Next Gen Director, and Director of Discipleship. Regularly attend and assist in leading meetings: Elder meetings | twice a month Board meetings | Once a quarter Deacon meetings | Once a month Membership Meetings | Minimum of once a year. Shepherding Preach 1-2 Sunday worship services a month. Lead and participate in Bible study and prayer meetings. Disciple and train leaders to build up the body of Christ. Regularly meet with congregants and shepherd them through pastoral care and counseling. Regularly do the work of evangelism. Support and promote the work of missions through SBCA's five-part
Global Partnership Strategy:
strategic prayer, worker care, doing our share, staying aware, going there. Planning & Administration Help plan and participate in outreach, events, retreats, etc. Ensure safe ministry practices and child protection policies. Assist in preparing and maintaining the annual budget. Assist in maintaining the facilities through making or coordinating repairs, purchasing supplies, managing rentals, managing church calendar, vendor relations, and other duties as required. Qualifications An evident and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Character marked by humility, integrity, emotional maturity, and teachability. Strong organizational management and research skills. Ability to competently utilize Planning Center, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Asana, and Proclaim. Strong relational, collaborative, and communication skills. Ability to develop leaders rather than do all ministry alone. Agreement with SBCA's mission, vision, and values. Agreement with the C&MA statement of faith. Evidence of formal theological education. Ordained, in the process of ordination, or willingness to be ordained in the C&MA. Can see themselves in a lead pastor role. Bi-vocational Expectations Ability to balance ministry responsibilities alongside outside employment. Clear communication regarding availability and scheduling. Commitment to healthy boundaries and sustainable ministry. All other assigned duties as needed and/or passion influences Schedule Approximately 20-25 hours per week. Includes Sundays, 1-2 evenings per week, and other events as needed.
