Definition:

Volunteer position that provides emotional, pastoral, and spiritual support to Police Department employees, their families, and members of the public during crisis, trauma, illness, or critical incidents. Responds to critical situations such as officer-involved incidents, deaths, disasters, and other traumatic events to provide immediate support and follow-up care. Serves as an on-call volunteer resource to assist with counseling, resource coordination, and compassionate support services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide pastoral care, emotional support, and spiritual guidance to employees, families, and community members. Respond to critical incidents including deaths, officer-involved incidents, disasters, and other traumatic events. Maintain on-call availability 24/7 with ability to respond within one hour when needed. Conduct follow-up support for individuals and families affected by crisis or tragedy. Maintain confidential records, compile monthly activity reports, and complete required documentation. Attend chaplain meetings, provide program education, and support employee wellness initiatives. Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of pastoral care, grief support, and crisis counseling principles. Knowledge of confidentiality standards and ethical considerations in counseling/support roles. Knowledge of basic reporting and administrative documentation practices. Strong interpersonal and active listening skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to provide calm, compassionate support in high-stress environments. Ability to respond quickly and effectively to critical incidents. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in sensitive situations Ability to work with diverse individuals including law enforcement personnel and community members.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High school diploma or GED required.

Experience:

Minimum five (5) years of ministry or pastoral experience required.

Licenses/Certificates:

Valid Colorado Driver's License. Degree, certification, or ordination may be considered in lieu of experience.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform moderate physical work, and to lift and carry up to 25 pounds; ability to stand, walk, sit, ride, climb, reach, grasp and perform similar body movements; possesses hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to operate office equipment including a computer keyboard and in some positions, operate a vehicle; ability to talk and hear in person and by telephone; ability to see and read instructions, journals, charts, and characters on a computer screen.
