Job Description

St. Mary, Chelsea is a mid-sized parish in the Diocese of Lansing serving 1200 families and is seeking to fill the position of Music Minister. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills with the Pastoral Team, support staff, choir members, cantors and instrumentalists. This person will be responsible for developing, planning & directing all liturgical music in the parish. We desire a mix of traditional and contemporary worship music. We have an existing group of 5-8 cantors, a choir and several specialty ensembles. We require an understanding of liturgy, proficiency at the organ and/or grand piano, experience with directing a SATB choir and the ability to cantor. Responsibilities include 3 weekend Masses, seasonal Masses, 1 week night rehearsal, seasonal rehearsals (Children's Choir) availability for weddings and funerals at an additional stipend. We will require office hours 1 day a week for administrative/preparation purposes. This is a 15-19 hour a week position and will be compensated justly. You will also have the ability to teach privately using our facilities at no cost, as our building schedule allows.
