Job Title:
Kid's Ministry Director Reports to: Lead Pastor Coordinates with:
Pastoral Staff, Director of Youth Music, and Office Staff and Kids Discipleship Team Purpose:
Provides visionary leadership and oversight for ministry to children, birth through elementary age. The Director creates safe, welcoming, and Christ-centered environments where children grow in faith through age-appropriate biblical teaching, worship, music, service, and creative learning experiences. By building relationships with children and families and equipping volunteers, the Director fosters a love for Christ and the church that lays the foundation for lifelong discipleship.
Job Responsibilities and Duties Supervision:
This role will have no staff supervisory responsibilities but will work closely with the Church Staff and Volunteers. Is accountable to the Board of Elders for life and doctrine.
Qualifications:
Demonstrate a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, spiritual maturity, and a servant-heart. Embrace the mission, vision, values, and ministries of First Reformed Church. Possess a Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Ministry, or a related field, or equivalent ministry experience. A genuine love for children and gift for building meaningful relationships with children and families. Demonstrate strong teaching, leadership, communication, organizational, and collaborative skills. Ability to recruit, equip, encourage, and develop leaders/volunteers. Exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and uphold the church's child protection policies. Have an understanding of and commitment to Reformed theology.
Ministry Responsibilities:
Leadership and Oversight Provide vision and leadership for children's ministry from nursery through elementary school. Oversee Sunday, mid-week, and summer programs (including Children in Worship, Sunday Connect, Nursery, family discipleship, and creative summer discipleship/outreach opportunities). Evaluate and develop programs that support children's spiritual formation and the church's mission. Provide creative direction for kickoff, holiday events, and special events. Coordinate the organization and upkeep of the nursery (i.e. supplies, toy cleaning, bulletin boards, etc.) Volunteer Development Recruit, train, equip, coordinate, and encourage children's ministry leaders and volunteers. Build relationships with volunteers, ministry leaders, and identify emerging leaders. Be present during ministry programs to support volunteers and engage with children and families. Spiritual Formation and Family Engagement Oversee (occasionally teach) age-appropriate, biblically grounded curriculum and programming. Partner with parents/caregivers in the spiritual formation of their children. Create opportunities for children to engage in Scripture, worship, prayer, relationships, and service. Help integrate children and families into the worship and broader life of the church. Collaboration and Administration Work collaboratively with pastoral staff, the Children's Choir Director, Children's Discipleship Team, volunteers, and church leadership. Attend staff and discipleship committee meetings. Available during office hours to meet with parents, children, and volunteers/leaders. Maintain appropriate records, schedules, communication, curriculum, and ministry resources. Ensure safe, welcoming, and engaging ministry environments. Evaluation and Compensation This is a part-time salaried position budgeted at 25 - 30 hrs per week. Compensation is determined by the Finance Deacons in keeping with the Church's compensation guidelines and RCA standards. Benefits are provided only as defined in the Employee Handbook. Regular performance review with the Lead Pastor and a Personnel Advocate with additional support throughout the year. Additional job counseling may be requested at any time and a meeting with the Personnel Committee may be requested by you at any time. This job description is intended to outline the primary responsibilities of the position and may be modified as ministry needs evolve. Professional development is encouraged and funding is available.
Pay:
$34,000.00 - $39,000.00 per year
