Purpose The Contemporary Worship Leader is a part-time music ministry position responsible for leading PUMC's contemporary worship experience in partnership with the Pastor and praise band. This person brings strong musicianship, a calling to music ministry , and a heart for serving others, helping create a natural flow of music, prayer, message, and connection throughout worship. The Contemporary Worship Leader is also an engaged member of congregational life, building relationships within the church and contributing as a collaborative music ministry partner when special services, holidays, and other moments in the life of the church call for creativity and support. Schedule & On-Site Presence This is a primarily on-site music ministry position. Regular and reliable availability on Sunday mornings and Wednesday early evenings is required for worship services, rehearsals, preparation, and collaboration with the Pastor, praise band and other associated church programming. Qualifications & Skills Strong Christian faith, a calling to music ministry, and a heart for serving others through worship. Excellence in at least one musical instrument; proficiency in additional instruments is welcomed. Strong vocal ability and confidence leading a congregation in contemporary Christian worship. Experience building, leading, and developing a worship band with musicians of varying experience and abilities. Ability to create an engaging worship environment through music, prayer, transitions, and other elements of the service. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a desire to build relationships and be known within the congregation. Collaborative, flexible, and comfortable contributing ideas and leadership as part of a ministry team. Working knowledge of sound, audiovisual, and production elements that support contemporary worship. Responsibilities Lead the praise band and congregation in contemporary worship, providing strong musical leadership and helping create a meaningful and natural flow of worship throughout the service. Select and prepare music in collaboration with the Pastor, connecting song choices with scripture, message, and the overall direction of worship. Schedule and lead praise band rehearsals, preparing musicians and materials in advance. Recruit, encourage, and develop singers and instrumentalists to maintain a strong and welcoming worship team. Partner with the Pastor and praise band in leading appropriate prayers, welcomes, transitions, and other elements of contemporary worship. Build relationships within the congregation and participate in congregational life where appropriate and possible. Collaborate with the Pastor, staff, musicians, and volunteers in planning special services, holidays, and other planned or unexpected events in the life of the church. Work with A/V staff and volunteers to support the technical and production needs of contemporary worship. Help develop alternate worship leadership to provide continuity when the Contemporary Worship Leader is unavailable. Accountability Support the mission, ministry, and United Methodist identity of Philadelphia United Methodist Church. Work cooperatively with the Pastor, ministry staff, musicians, and volunteer leaders. Serve as a positive, collaborative, and encouraging presence within the congregation and ministry team. Comply with PUMC's Safe Sanctuary policies and required background checks. Report to the Pastor, with personnel oversight by the Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC).
