Essential Religious Duties Supervisor:
Senior Associate Pastor Position Summary The Contemporary Worship Leader provides spiritual, musical, and organizational leadership for the contemporary worship ministry of Christ Church, with Sunday morning contemporary worship as the primary responsibility of the position. Christ Church offers two contemporary worship services each Sunday in The Hall, our contemporary worship space. The Contemporary Worship Leader is responsible for ensuring these services are excellent in preparation, musical execution, technology, and spiritual leadership , while creating an environment where people are invited to encounter and respond to Jesus Christ. This position also serves the broader worship life of Christ Church by helping build bridges between worship in The Hall and the Sanctuary, developing worship leaders across generations, providing leadership for Youth and College Worship, and helping lead special and combined worship experiences throughout the year. The Contemporary Worship Leader is called not simply to lead worship services, but to lead people in worship, develop people for ministry, and help Christ Church remain one church with many expressions of worship. Primary Responsibilities Sunday Contemporary Worship Provide primary leadership and oversight for the two Sunday morning contemporary worship services in The Hall. Establish and maintain a high standard of musical, spiritual, technical, and organizational excellence . Lead the congregation in worship with authenticity, confidence, and spiritual depth. Plan weekly services in coordination with the pastoral team, including music selection, service flow, and order of worship. Christ Church currently uses Planning Center. Lead weekly rehearsals and prepare musicians, vocalists, and technical teams for each service. Select and develop worship music that is biblically grounded, theologically appropriate, accessible to the congregation, and aligned with the vision of Christ Church. Work closely with the Media Director to ensure sound, lighting, video, ProPresenter, stage design, and other production elements are prepared and functioning at a high level. Continually evaluate and improve the worship experience. Building One Worshiping Church Christ Church worships in two primary environments: The Hall and the Sanctuary, which hosts traditional and blended worship. This position will help build relationships and a sense of unity between these worship communities . Develop strong relationships with pastors, staff, musicians, worship leaders, and volunteers serving in both worship environments. Look for opportunities to share people, ideas, resources, and leadership across worship ministries. Help create worship experiences that bring the congregation together, including Maundy Thursday, Easter Sunrise, Christmas, and other combined services . Provide music leadership for other church gatherings as needed, including events such as Cultivate Moms . Support the larger worship vision and mission of Christ Church beyond the contemporary worship ministry. Developing Worship Leaders A central responsibility of this position is to build a healthy, multigenerational worship ministry that continually develops new leaders. Identify, recruit, and develop musicians, vocalists, and potential worship leaders of all ages . Provide intentional coaching, mentoring, training, and opportunities for developing team members to grow. Build multiple teams of musicians and worship leaders, providing for redundancies in positions. Give emerging leaders increasing responsibility as they demonstrate readiness. Encourage experienced team members to invest in and mentor those coming behind them. Develop a sustainable pathway from worship team member to worship leader. Intentionally cultivate lifelong worship leaders who can serve Christ Church through different seasons and stages of life. Youth and College Worship Provide worship and musical leadership for Youth Worship, College Worship, and other mid-week worship gatherings as assigned. Partner with youth and college ministry leaders to identify and develop students and young adults with musical, spiritual, and leadership gifts. Give young people meaningful opportunities to serve, lead, and grow within the worship ministry. Develop emerging leaders who can eventually serve across multiple worship environments at Christ Church. Administration and Collaboration Work with the Director of Music Ministry and Senior Associate Pastor to develop and manage the contemporary worship budget. Submit monthly payroll for paid staff reporting to Contemporary Worship Leader Recruit, schedule, communicate with, and care for worship team volunteers. Participate in Staff Meetings, Worship Planning Meetings, and other meetings appropriate to the position. Support the overall mission, vision, and ministries of Christ Church. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Pastor. Qualifications Clear testimony of a life that has trusted in and is actively walking with Jesus Christ. Agreement with and commitment to the beliefs, doctrine, mission, and values of Christ Church and the Global Methodist Church. At least five years of experience planning, preparing, and leading contemporary worship. Demonstrated ability to lead worship with a high standard of excellence and preparation . A heart to lead people in worship, not simply lead a worship service. Demonstrated ability and passion for recruiting, mentoring, and developing worship team members and emerging leaders. The Contemporary Worship Leader is the person teaching and training, thus developing people s abilities so that they can effectively serve. Experience working with youth and college students is strongly preferred. Strong vocal and instrumental leadership skills, including proficiency on an instrument appropriate for a contemporary worship band. Quality singing voice and engaging, authentic stage presence. Experience with worship technology, including ProPresenter, Planning Center, sound, lighting, video, and related systems. Strong organizational, communication, and relational skills. Ability to work collaboratively with pastors, staff, volunteers, musicians, vocalists, and technical teams. Self-starter who takes initiative, strives for excellence, and follows through on responsibilities. The Contemporary Worship Leader considers Christ Church as his/her church home. As demonstrated by involvement in the overall church including, worship, small groups and churchwide events. Ultimately, we want to develop a worship ministry where excellence and discipleship go hand in hand , and where today's worship leaders are continually investing in tomorrow's leaders.
