ABOUT OUR CHURCH
Catawba Valley Baptist Church is a welcoming country church in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, within sight of McAfee Knob on the Appalachian Trail. Our life together is grounded in prayer, faithful biblical teaching, caring relationships, and a longstanding commitment to missions. We are prayerfully seeking a Senior Pastor who will build on these strengths, deepen discipleship, equip members for ministry, and lead us in sharing the gospel with our community and the world. PURPOSE The Senior Pastor is called to prayerfully shepherd and lead Catawba Valley Baptist Church in faithfully following Christ and carrying out its mission of reaching people for Christ both here and around the world. He will preach and teach God's Word, care for and lead the congregation, equip believers for ministry, and help CVBC discern and join God in His work in our church and community.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Preach and Teach God's Word Faithfully study, preach, and teach Scripture; guard sound doctrine; and help the congregation grow toward maturity in Christ. 2. Shepherd the Church Know, love, pray for, and care for the congregation. Promote unity, trust, reconciliation, and healthy biblical relationships. 3. Lead Prayerfully Seek God's direction and provide clear spiritual leadership in partnership with the congregation, deacons, staff, and other church leaders. 4. Equip the Body for Ministry Develop disciples and leaders, encourage members to use their gifts, and equip the congregation to share responsibility for ministry rather than creating dependence upon the pastor. 5. Lead the Church Outward Model and encourage evangelism, community engagement, and continued commitment to missions locally and around the world.
BIBLICAL QUALIFICATIONS
The Senior Pastor must meet the biblical qualifications for an elder/pastor found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4, and be doctrinally aligned with CVBC's statement of faith, The Baptist Faith & Message (2000), and CVBC's Constitution and Bylaws.
