Residential Safety & Support Specialist 399 Housing | Evening & Overnight Positions Multiple Positions Available About 399 Housing 399 Housing is a 24-unit supportive housing apartment building operated by YWCA Clinton Empowerment Center. We provide case management, safe and stable housing, and rental assistance to individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness. Supportive housing combines affordable housing with case management, supportive services, and connections to community resources that help residents maintain housing stability and work toward their individual goals. Staff provide support and assistance with navigating barriers while respecting resident choice, independence, and dignity. 399 Housing is more than a housing program—it is our residents' home, and our goal is to provide a safe, respectful, and welcoming residential community.

Schedule & Pay Evening:

7:00 PM-11:00

PM Overnight:

11:00 PM-7:00 AM Weeknight and weekend shifts available

Starting Pay:

$17.75/hour

Overnight Differential:

Additional $1.50/hour for hours worked between 11:00 PM-7:00

AM Overnight Rate:

$19.25/hour Scheduling Expectations Because 399 Housing operates 24/7, reliable staffing and consistent coverage are essential. Staff should expect to work some holidays as part of the regular scheduling rotation. Employees are responsible for arranging approved coverage when they are unable to work a scheduled shift, in accordance with agency call-off and scheduling procedures. Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. About the Position 399 Housing is seeking a dependable, observant, and compassionate Residential Safety & Support Specialist to help maintain a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for our residents. This position serves as an important on-site staff presence during evening and overnight hours, with a primary focus on resident and building safety. This is a housing-focused, trauma-informed role that also emphasizes building positive rapport with residents, responding to concerns, connecting residents with appropriate resources, and maintaining a clean and safe residential environment. Key Responsibilities Maintain a visible and consistent staff presence throughout the building. Build positive rapport and respectful relationships with residents while maintaining professional boundaries. Monitor entrances, common areas, and the residential environment for safety concerns. Conduct routine building walkthroughs and identify safety, maintenance, or environmental concerns. Respond calmly to conflicts, disturbances, behavioral concerns, and emergencies using trauma-informed communication and de-escalation techniques. Address unauthorized visitors and building access concerns according to established procedures. Recognize when additional assistance is needed and contact supervisors, crisis services, law enforcement, fire/EMS, or other emergency resources as appropriate. Listen to resident concerns and connect or direct residents to appropriate agency and community resources. Communicate resident needs requiring additional support or follow-up to case management staff. Perform light housekeeping of common areas, including basic cleaning, trash removal, restocking supplies, and maintaining general tidiness. Complete shift notes, incident reports, and other required documentation. Maintain confidentiality and support housing-focused, trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and resident-centered practices.

Qualifications Required:

High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to build rapport and engage respectfully with residents from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. Ability to remain calm, alert, and professional during stressful or emergency situations. Dependable, observant, and comfortable working independently. Ability to use sound judgment and follow established safety and emergency procedures. Willingness to assist residents with connecting to appropriate resources and perform light housekeeping duties. Commitment to treating all residents with dignity and respect. CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain

Preferred:

Experience in supportive housing, homelessness services, residential programs, behavioral health, social services, crisis services, or a related setting. Experience in a safety-focused residential, facility, or community-based role. Previous safety, security, crisis response, or incident-response experience is a plus. Experience with crisis intervention, conflict resolution, or de-escalation. Familiarity with community resources and social service systems.
