This is a 0.8FTE position and the salary range is from $36,890 to $44,558 with 15 years experience. Additional consideration for experience beyond 15 years. Position Overview The Upper School Student Support Coordinator plays a central role in fostering an inclusive, supportive, and academically empowering environment for students in grades 6-12. This position oversees the creation, tracking, and implementation of individual Learning Support Plans (LSPs), partners directly with faculty to differentiate instruction and accommodations, and delivers direct instruction through a weekly "Active Learning" course for 9th-grade students. The ideal support specialist possesses deep expertise in learning differences, executive functioning, and adolescent development, along with a collaborative approach to partnering with teachers, families, and administrators. Key Responsibilities Direct Instruction & Curriculum Delivery Teach 9th Grade "Active Learning": Design and deliver a once-per-week "Active Learning" course for 9th-grade students focused on executive functioning, study techniques, time management, metacognition, and self-advocacy.
Targeted Skill Building:
Teach actionable strategies that empower students to navigate academic transitions, manage workloads, and actively participate in their own learning process. Learning Support Plan (LSP)
Management & Tracking LSP Development:
Review external psychoeducational assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and internal academic data to craft detailed, actionable Learning Support Plans (LSPs) for all qualifying students in grades 6-12.
Tracking & Progress Monitoring:
Maintain an organized, central tracking system to monitor LSP implementation, compliance, and student progress across all middle and high school grade levels.
Annual Reviews:
Regularly evaluate and update student LSPs to ensure accommodations align with each student's evolving academic, developmental, and emotional needs.
Teacher Support & Instructional Accommodation Faculty Consultation:
Collaborate closely with 6-12 classroom teachers to ensure individual accommodations (e.g., extended time, assistive technology, modified assignments) are effectively integrated into daily instruction and assessments.
In-Class Support:
Push into classrooms as needed to observe student learning dynamics, model support strategies, and evaluate the effectiveness of classroom accommodations.
Professional Resources:
Provide ongoing guidance, resources, and practical strategies to faculty on universal design for learning (UDL), neurodiversity, and differentiated instruction.
Communication & Case Management Parent & Family Engagement:
Serve as the primary point of contact for families regarding student accommodation plans, leading LSP meetings and providing updates on academic progress.
Multi-Disciplinary Team Coordination:
Coordinate regular case conferences with teachers, school counselors, advisors, and administrators to discuss holistic student well-being and academic strategies.
External Liaison:
Partner with external specialists (e.g., tutors, educational psychologists, speech-language pathologists) as necessary to support comprehensive student care.
Faculty Responsibilities Class Advisor:
In collaboration with colleagues, the class advisors meet with the class, usually once per week, to check in and support them with their involvement with festivals and other school events where they have specific roles and responsibilities. Each high school grade also has a retreat day during the year for group reflection through discussions and activities to strengthen the class community. Recess Supervision as needed, in collaboration with other teachers and faculty. Attending weekly faculty meetings, which take place on Tuesdays from 3:45 - 5:15 pm. Qualifications Bachelor's degree Learning support/academic support service experience Experience with IEP, 504, and student support plan implementation Preference will be given to those who have direct student experience with middle/high school-aged children Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with colleagues Organizational skills Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills The Hartsbrook School is committed to enhancing diversity and equity in education and employment.
