The Barren County Family YMCA is looking for a cause-driven leader to serve as our Director of Youth Development. Job Description The Director of Youth Development provides leadership and oversight for the YMCA's youth development programs, including Afterschool Care, Summer Camp, Out-of-School Camps and other youth programs as assigned. This position is responsible for the overall planning, promotion, administration, and day-to-day operations of assigned programs while ensuring high-quality programming and compliance with YMCA standards and Kentucky child care regulations. The Director of Youth Development leads, develops, and supports staff to create a safe, positive, and engaging environment for children and families. This position works closely with YMCA leadership, staff, volunteers, schools, families, and community partners to support the growth and effectiveness of youth development programs. Essential Functions Plans, organizes, promotes, and provides leadership for Afterschool Care, Summer Camp, Out-of-School Camps and other assigned youth programs in accordance with YMCA standards, curriculum, and operating plans. Provides daily leadership and oversight of program operations, ensuring programs are safe, organized, appropriately staffed, and operating effectively. Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, development, scheduling, supervision, coaching, and evaluation of full-time and part-time youth development staff. Develops and maintains staff training schedules and professional development plans and ensures required training is completed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance and develops strategies to motivate staff, strengthen teamwork, and achieve program goals. Ensures staff maintain required certifications and training, including all applicable Kentucky Division of Regulated Childcare requirements. Monitors daily program operations to ensure compliance with Kentucky child care licensing regulations, state and local requirements, YMCA policies and procedures, and required staff-to-child ratios. Ensures positive discipline practices are consistently used throughout all youth development programs. Ensures accurate and timely record keeping, including attendance, rosters, registration information, billing, medical records, incident reports, staff records, and other required documentation. Oversees program registration and enrollment processes and maintains accurate program records. Develops and monitors program budgets in conjunction with YMCA leadership and ensures responsible use of program resources. Ensures adequate and appropriate program supplies, equipment, and materials are available and maintained. Coordinates transportation for youth programs, including monitoring bus transportation to ensure children are transported safely to and from programs and schools in accordance with YMCA bus procedures. Plans and coordinates special events, activities, and experiences associated with youth development programs. Coordinates communication, mailings, distributions, and school announcements to support program awareness, enrollment, and growth. Develops and maintains positive and collaborative relationships with children, families, staff, volunteers, schools, and community organizations. Responds to parent, member, participant, and community questions or concerns in a timely and professional manner. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication with staff and YMCA leadership. Supports program development and identifies opportunities to improve, expand, and strengthen youth development programs. Participates as a member of the YMCA Leadership Team and contributes to YMCA-wide projects, events, and initiatives. Assists with YMCA fundraising activities, community events, and other efforts that support the YMCA's mission and youth development programs. Maintains a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment in all assigned program areas. Compiles program statistics and monitors participation, enrollment, and other program information to evaluate program effectiveness. Maintains current CPR and First Aid certification. Attends required staff meetings, trainings, and YMCA events and provides leadership for meetings and trainings as assigned. Models the YMCA's core values and demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and relationship-building in all interactions. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Recreation, or a related field required. Must meet the qualifications and maintain all required training and certifications for a program director under the Kentucky Division of Regulated Childcare . Three to five years of experience in licensed child care, youth development, summer camp, or related programming preferred. Demonstrated experience in program management, staff supervision, scheduling, coaching, and staff development. Demonstrated ability to recruit, hire, train, develop, and retain staff and volunteers. Experience with program budgeting, record keeping, and administrative responsibilities. Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines. Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office. Ability to build positive relationships and work effectively with children, families, staff, volunteers, schools, and community partners. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. High level of initiative, professionalism, discretion, and personal and professional integrity. Commitment to the YMCA mission, cause, and core values.
