Social Services Director

Job Description

Position Summary:
This position carries a high level of responsibility for the overall leadership, administration, and strategic direction of multiple programs within the Social Services department. The Director of Social Services is responsible for program development and sustainability, funding acquisition, staff supervision, and cultivating partnerships with community organizations, governmental agencies, and private sector stakeholders to advance agency mission and objectives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide overall leadership and management of Social Services programs to ensure alignment with agency goals, funder requirements, and community needs. 2. Supervise and support Social Service Coordinators, conducting bi-weekly meetings to assess program performance, challenges, and outcomes. 3. Lead the development, implementation, and expansion of new social service programs in response to identified community needs. 4. Research, identify, and secure funding opportunities, including grants and partnerships, to support program objectives and sustainability. 5. Oversee and monitor program budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance with funding guidelines. 6. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Social Services staff involved in assigned programs and activities. 7. Ensure accurate and timely completion of required program reports, data collection, and maintenance of program logs and records. 8. Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with social service providers, governmental agencies, and private sector partners. 9. Coordinate and oversee the delivery of client services, including intake and assessment procedures, access to services, site operations, client discharge processes, surveys, and program planning. 10. Implement and monitor Results-Oriented Management and Accountability (ROMA) standards and performance measurement systems. 11. Position Objectives:
1. Work collaboratively with the Management Team to implement the agency's strategic plan and support the continuous improvement, growth, and effectiveness of agency operations. 2. Serve as a strategic partner in the development, support, and performance of staff, programs, and special projects across the Social Services department. 3. Provide professional human resources leadership and guidance to managers and supervisors, including staff development, performance management, and employee relations support. 4. Effectively manage complex, diverse, and competing tasks and assignments while maintaining accuracy, accountability, and timeliness. 5. Take a proactive and solutions-oriented approach to identifying challenges, mitigating risks, and resolving operational and programmatic issues. 6. Provide high-quality supervision, coaching, and support to ensure staff effectiveness, engagement, and compliance with agency standards and expectations. 7. Represent the agency professionally and positively in all internal and external interactions, including with staff, partners, funders, and the community.
Qualifications:
This position requires a minimum of a Master of Social Work (MSW) or related field, and at least five (5+) years of progressively responsible experience in social services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and competencies required for the role. The individual must possess strong organizational, assessment, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex operations and multiple competing priorities effectively. In-depth knowledge of the Delaware County social services infrastructure is required, along with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community service providers. The position also requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal and leadership abilities, and the capacity to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. The successful candidate will be a strong manager with proven experience in staff supervision, team development, and performance management.

The physical demands described in this section are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties described herein, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, ascend and descend stairs, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision capabilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

$95,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
