Volunteer Coordinator Caring House Durham, NC Job Details Part-time $23 - $26 an hour 9 hours ago Qualifications Volunteer management Bachelor's degree Interviewing Productivity software Manual handling Adult education Full Job Description Overview SECU Caring House provides an affordable lodging option and supportive community to Duke Cancer Institute patients and their caregivers who call SECU Caring House home during treatment. SECU Caring House provides lodging for 18 adult patients receiving long-term cancer treatment at the Duke Cancer Institute. Patients may have one or two caregivers stay with them during their treatment with an average length of stay being 4 weeks. In addition to comfortable accommodations, Caring House also offers a "home away from home" environment for healing. The community that grows among the guests provides a source of support, compassion, acceptance, hope and comfort. We will be opening our expanded facility in early 2027 which will add 17 single rooms, six suites, another kitchen and dining room, and office space.
Hours:
Part-Time, 20-25 hours a week, exact hours to be determined. Responsibilities Recruitment and Screening Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment strategy using multiple channels Review applications, and conduct interviews for all prospective volunteers Maintain relationships with community organizations, faith communities, schools, and businesses as volunteer pipeline sources Training and Orientation Design and deliver orientation and training for all new volunteers Develop and update volunteer handbooks, training materials, and position descriptions Provide ongoing and role-specific training as the volunteer program evolves Scheduling and Coordination Maintain volunteer schedules to ensure adequate coverage across all needed shifts and activities Communicate regularly with volunteers about schedules, updates, and house needs Coordinate volunteer meal programs, group service projects, and special events Engagement and Recognition Implement strategies to retain active volunteers and build long-term commitment Plan and execute volunteer appreciation events and recognition activities Maintain volunteer records including hours, and contact information Provide regular reports on volunteer engagement and program metrics Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Minimum two years of experience in volunteer management, community relations, or a related field Excellent communication skills and comfort engaging diverse groups of people Highly organized with strong follow-through Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with volunteer management software a plus Ability to work some evenings and weekends for volunteer activities and events Physical Requirements Primarily office-based with regular movement through the facility Ability to lift up to 20 pounds Availability for occasional evening and weekend events (up to 5 times a year) Anti-Discrimination Policy and Commitment to Diversity Caring House is committed to maximizing the diversity of our organization as we want to engage all those who can contribute to our mission.
