Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Housing Specialist to join our team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families experiencing housing instability. In this vital role, you will serve as a compassionate advocate, connecting clients with essential housing assistance programs while navigating complex regulations such as Fair Housing, HUD (Housing and Urban Development), LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), and Section 8. Your expertise in property management, negotiation, crisis intervention, and social services will empower you to support high-risk populations, including those with mental health conditions, substance use challenges, or experiencing homelessness. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with diverse communities and help build pathways toward stable, affordable housing. Duties Assess client needs through thorough case management and motivational interviewing techniques to develop personalized housing plans. Assist clients in navigating housing assistance programs such as Section 8 vouchers, LIHTC properties, and other federal or local initiatives. Collaborate with landlords, property managers, and community partners to negotiate lease agreements that meet both client needs and legal requirements. Provide crisis intervention and high-risk population support during emergency situations or when clients face housing crises. Educate clients on landlord-tenant law, Fair Housing regulations, and their rights and responsibilities under HUD guidelines. Maintain accurate documentation using property management tools and case management software to track progress and compliance. Conduct outreach efforts within culturally diverse communities to promote awareness of available resources and foster trust. Support clients with mental health conditions or addiction challenges by coordinating social services, addiction counseling referrals, and crisis management strategies. Qualifications Proven experience in social work, housing assistance programs, or property management within underserved communities. Strong negotiation skills to facilitate agreements between tenants and landlords effectively. Knowledge of landlord-tenant law, Fair Housing regulations, HUD policies, LIHTC compliance, and Section 8 procedures. Ability to perform crisis intervention and manage high-stress situations with professionalism and empathy. Excellent client communication skills with a focus on culturally competent service delivery. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) for documentation and reporting purposes. Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or facing mental health or addiction issues is highly desirable. Familiarity with social services coordination, case management practices, motivational interviewing techniques, and crisis management protocols. Join our team to help create stable housing opportunities for those most in need! We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every individual's dignity is respected while providing vital support that transforms lives through compassionate service delivery.
