Moore County Juvenile Community Service Program Position Summary The Community Service Leader is responsible for providing direct supervision, mentoring, transportation support, and leadership to youth participating in the Moore County Juvenile Community Service Program. The Leader will work directly with juvenile participants at community service sites and ensure that all assigned projects are completed safely, appropriately, and successfully. The Community Service Leader serves as a positive adult role model and helps participants develop accountability, responsibility, work ethic, leadership, communication, and positive decision-making skills. This position requires an individual who can establish appropriate relationships with youth while maintaining clear expectations, professional boundaries, and consistent accountability. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide direct supervision of youth participating in community service projects. Transport participants to and from approved community service locations as assigned. Maintain appropriate staff-to-youth supervision and ensure participants remain accounted for at all times. Lead community service activities, including neighborhood cleanups, beautification projects, food distribution, nonprofit volunteer projects, and other approved assignments. Provide clear instructions and expectations before each service activity. Teach proper use of tools, equipment, and safety materials. Ensure youth follow all safety procedures and organizational policies. Provide mentoring, encouragement, and positive reinforcement. Help participants understand responsibility, accountability, respect, teamwork, and the importance of giving back to their community. Address inappropriate behavior using approved positive behavior-management and restorative practices. Assist youth with developing conflict-resolution, communication, and problem-solving skills. Facilitate brief reflection activities following community service projects to help participants connect their experiences with personal growth and responsibility. Maintain accurate documentation of participant attendance and completed community service hours. Complete daily activity logs, incident reports, progress notes, and other required documentation. Immediately report accidents, incidents, safety concerns, or significant behavioral issues to the Program Manager. Communicate participant progress and concerns to the Program Manager. Assist with communication and engagement with parents and guardians when directed. Work collaboratively with juvenile justice representatives, community organizations, schools, nonprofits, and other program partners. Maintain confidentiality regarding participants and their families. Assist with program evaluations and collection of participant outcome data. Maintain program vehicles, equipment, and supplies in a clean and organized condition. Conduct basic vehicle safety checks before transporting participants and promptly report maintenance concerns. Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development. Perform other program-related duties as assigned by the Program Manager. Youth Development Responsibilities The Community Service Leader will create an environment that encourages participants to: Accept responsibility for their actions. Develop positive relationships with adults and peers. Improve communication and conflict-resolution skills. Strengthen their work ethic. Develop leadership and teamwork skills. Complete assigned community service requirements. Establish positive personal, educational, and career goals. Recognize their ability to positively contribute to Moore County. Parent/Guardian Engagement The Leader will support family engagement by maintaining professional communication with parents and guardians, providing appropriate updates regarding attendance and participation, and communicating concerns to the Program Manager. Parents and guardians may also be encouraged to participate in family meetings, program activities, community service events, and recognition ceremonies. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Education, Recreation, Youth Development, or a related field preferred. Previous experience working with youth, particularly adolescents or youth facing behavioral or social challenges, preferred. Experience in mentoring, youth development, community service, recreation, juvenile services, or a related field is strongly preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license and meet organizational requirements for operating agency vehicles. Must successfully complete required criminal background checks and screenings. CPR/First Aid certification required or ability to obtain certification after employment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful candidate should demonstrate strong: Youth supervision and mentoring skills. Leadership and communication skills. Conflict-resolution and de-escalation abilities. Organizational and time-management skills. Documentation and record-keeping abilities. Ability to establish professional boundaries with youth. Ability to work effectively with parents, community partners, and juvenile justice professionals. Ability to remain calm and make appropriate decisions during challenging situations. Understanding of confidentiality and professional conduct. Physical and Work Requirements The position requires the ability to work both indoors and outdoors and participate in hands-on community service activities. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, bend and lift program materials and supplies up to approximately 30 pounds, and safely supervise youth in various community environments. The position may require afternoon, evening, weekend, and occasional holiday hours based on program and community service schedules. Performance Expectations Performance will be measured by the Leader's ability to maintain participant safety, provide consistent supervision, ensure accurate documentation of service hours, maintain positive relationships with youth and families, complete required reports on time, support successful completion of community service assignments, and demonstrate professionalism and accountability. Commitment to Youth The Community Service Leader serves as a mentor, coach, and positive role model who helps young people recognize that their past decisions do not have to determine their future. Through accountability, service, encouragement, and positive relationships, the Leader will help participants develop the skills necessary to become productive, caring, and responsible members of the Moore County community.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 per week
