NewLife Outpatient is seeking a compassionate and motivated Substance Abuse Counselor to provide substance use treatment and recovery support services within a correctional setting. This is a full-time position working directly with incarcerated individuals to support recovery, successful community re-entry, and reduced recidivism. The ideal candidate will be dependable, professional, comfortable working in a structured correctional environment, and able to build appropriate therapeutic relationships with individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a human services-related field (such as Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Counseling, Sociology, or a related discipline). Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders or within a correctional setting is preferred but not required. Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Employment Requirements Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening. Must successfully pass a criminal background check. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain clearance to work within a correctional facility. Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Position Summary The Substance Abuse Counselor will assist in delivering evidence-based substance use treatment services designed to promote recovery, support successful community re-entry, and reduce recidivism among incarcerated individuals. Working under appropriate clinical supervision and in accordance with Alabama Department of Mental Health standards, the counselor will: Facilitate individual and group substance use counseling sessions. Assist in developing and updating individualized treatment plans. Document services accurately and timely. Monitor client progress toward treatment goals. Collaborate with correctional staff and the treatment team to coordinate services. Encourage recovery-oriented motivation and support clients as they prepare for successful community re-entry.
