Overview Join our dedicated team as a Substance Abuse Counselor and make a meaningful impact on individuals battling addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. In this vital role, you will provide compassionate, evidence-based counseling to help clients achieve lasting recovery. Your expertise will guide clients through behavioral health challenges, support their mental wellness, and foster positive change within diverse populations. Duties Conduct comprehensive client assessments using diagnostic tools such as DSM-5 criteria and ICD coding standards to determine treatment needs. Develop personalized treatment plans incorporating evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions focused on addiction counseling, mental health counseling, and behavioral health strategies. Implement crisis intervention techniques and crisis management protocols to ensure client safety during emergencies or acute episodes. Maintain accurate clinical documentation adhering to medical documentation standards, HIPAA regulations, and electronic health records (EHR/EHR) management protocols. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate case management, discharge planning, and community care services, including home visits when appropriate. Engage in ongoing research and data collection efforts to evaluate treatment effectiveness and improve clinical outcomes. Facilitate Group Therapy when needed. Skills Strong knowledge of psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), applied behavior analysis, and evidence-based practices for substance use disorders. Proficiency in motivational interviewing techniques to enhance client engagement and motivation for change. Experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders, PTSD care, and diverse cultural backgrounds. Ability to perform client assessments in therapy settings, including intake evaluations and diagnostic evaluations using DSM-5 criteria. Excellent crisis intervention skills coupled with crisis management expertise in behavioral health settings. Competence in working with electronic health records (EHR), EMR systems, and maintaining patient confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines. Effective communication skills for client interaction, family counseling, and interdisciplinary collaboration within hospital or community-based environments.
