Position Description JH Kelly is seeking an innovative and business-minded AI & Automation Engineer to join our IT Development team within the Data, Analytics & AI function . In this role, you'll design, build, deploy, and support AI-powered applications, workflow automations, and enterprise integrations that improve efficiency, decision-making, and access to trusted business information across the organization. This position works closely with Accounting, Finance, Data Engineering, Software Development, Business Intelligence, and operational leadership to identify opportunities where artificial intelligence and automation can create measurable business value. A key focus of this role is developing solutions that support financial and operational processes while maintaining data integrity, security, and governance. Here's a deeper dive into what you'll take on: AI Application Development & Automation Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI-enabled applications and internal productivity tools. Build workflow automations connecting enterprise applications, databases, APIs, AI services, and business processes. Develop AI-assisted applications utilizing large language models, enterprise data, retrieval-based architectures, agents, and approved AI platforms. Create reusable prompts, integrations, automation components, and development patterns. Rapidly prototype solutions and transition successful concepts into secure, scalable production applications. Develop scheduled, event-driven, and user-triggered automation workflows. Monitor and continuously improve application performance, reliability, and user experience. Financial Solutions & Business Process Improvement Partner with Accounting, Finance, and operational leaders to understand existing workflows and identify automation opportunities. Develop applications that improve access to financial and operational information. Build budget-versus-actual reporting tools, performance dashboards, and analytical applications. Create workflow solutions for approvals, routing, reviews, escalations, and financial processes. Develop automated validation, reconciliation, exception identification, and transaction classification processes. Create AI-assisted summaries, insights, and decision-support tools. Reduce dependency on manual spreadsheet processes through automation and application development. Support forecasting, financial planning, and project financial analysis initiatives. Data Integrity, Governance & Controls Work with Data Engineering teams to consume governed enterprise datasets and data products. Validate business rules, calculations, and financial logic with Accounting and Finance stakeholders. Maintain traceability between application outputs and authoritative data sources. Implement data validation, error handling, and exception management processes. Document calculations, transformations, assumptions, and business rules. Ensure automated processes operate within established financial controls and governance standards. Participate in testing, validation, and user acceptance activities before production deployment. Systems Integration & Technical Development Develop and maintain REST API, webhook, database, and enterprise system integrations. Connect AI applications to approved enterprise data sources and business systems. Work with SQL-based operational and financial datasets. Implement authentication, permissions, secrets management, and access controls. Troubleshoot database, integration, application, authentication, and API issues. Partner with Software Development and IT teams on broader enterprise technology initiatives. Production Support & Continuous Improvement Support production applications and automation solutions after deployment. Develop and execute testing plans and validation procedures. Monitor solutions for performance issues, failures, and unexpected behavior. Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, release notes, and support materials. Identify opportunities for enhancement based on user feedback and business needs. Follow development standards, change management procedures, and security best practices. Support other duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements What You Bring Experience:

Developing software applications, workflow automations, integrations, or data-driven business solutions. Experience with Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL, or comparable programming languages. Working with APIs, REST services, JSON, webhooks, and enterprise integrations. Experience working with structured business, financial, or operational data. Experience throughout the software development lifecycle, including testing, deployment, documentation, and production support.

Preferred:

Experience with financial systems, ERP platforms, or accounting-related applications. Experience with construction accounting, job cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, or financial reporting. Experience with Generative AI platforms such as Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or similar technologies. Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents, workflow automation platforms, or AI-assisted development tools. Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS. Experience with Git, DevOps, source control, enterprise integrations, or data engineering practices.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
