ADABAS/CICS/IMS
Systems Programmer/DBA to join our dynamic IT team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing complex mainframe and distributed database environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. Your expertise will drive the seamless operation of critical systems, supporting enterprise data management, disaster recovery architectures, and system tuning initiatives. The Mainframe Systems Programmer/DBA for Legacy Systems manages different types of databases, such as hierarchical (IMS), relational (DB2), and file-based (ADABAS), and is responsible for planning and upgrading the database environments on a County-established basis; verifying the health of all the databases; database administration technical consulting for application and operations teams for the purpose of project planning/development; maintenance on production database systems; performance of technical reviews for existing systems that utilize one of the following database management systems (DBMS): ADABAS, DB2 or IMS; performance of evaluations for the purposes of selecting new or fine-tuning existing DBMS software; consultation with project development teams to provide recommendations on database design; development of logical and physical database designs; creation of overviews of logical database designs; creation of physical databases; database capacity planning; development and use of backup and recovery procedures for databases; database performance monitoring; database space monitoring; database reorganizations; database replication; database compression and database partitioning. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge database solutions, implement innovative data strategies, and contribute to the stability and scalability of our infrastructure. Responsibilities Manage and maintain ADABAS (a high-performance database management system), CICS (Customer Information Control System), and IMS (Information Management System) environments to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Design, develop, and implement robust data models, relational database schemas, and architecture solutions that support business needs. Perform database tuning, system troubleshooting, and performance optimization to improve system uptime and efficiency. Execute database backup, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery planning to safeguard critical data assets. Develop and maintain stored procedures, triggers, T-SQL scripts for Microsoft SQL Server, PL/SQL for Oracle databases, as well as shell scripting (Bash) for Linux environments to automate routine tasks. Implement high availability architectures such as database clustering and replication strategies across cloud or on-premises platforms. Support data migration projects, ETL processes using SSIS or similar tools, and ensure data integrity during transitions. Conduct system monitoring, capacity planning, and performance tuning to enhance overall database health. Provide technical troubleshooting support for complex issues related to database architecture, connectivity, security policies including data management security protocols. Requirements Proven experience managing ADABAS systems along with CICS and IMS mainframe environments in a high availability setting. Strong knowledge of relational databases including MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server with expertise in database design, development, backup/recovery, and performance tuning. Hands-on experience with Linux operating systems including Bash scripting and shell scripting for automation tasks. Proficiency in SQL (Structured Query Language), T-SQL (Transact-SQL), PL/SQL (Procedural Language/SQL), Data model design, and system tuning techniques. Familiarity with cloud databases and distributed systems architecture supporting high availability solutions. Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues quickly while maintaining system stability. Knowledge of disaster recovery architecture principles and implementing resilient database solutions. Experience with data migration projects involving large datasets across different platforms or cloud environments. Strong understanding of data security practices related to data management security policies. Skills required
