Programmer
Job Description
The Programmer participates in the day-to-day support of the College's Banner enterprise system. Provides support for the Banner/Oracle databases (including development, training, preproduction and production instances), including upgrade testing. Resolves help desk tickets related to the ERP system and related interfaces. Analyzes programming problems and determines appropriate solutions; researches available tools and technologies to provide innovative solutions to application problems and utilizes computer applications such as PLSQL and UC4 Applications Manager to automate recurring departmental activities. Provides support for Banner reporting and web application needs; implements requirements into the Student Evaluation System (SES) and the Faculty Annual Activity Report (FAAR); serves as backup for Import of all US Dept. of Education financial aid electronic transactions data into Banner in collaboration with the Admissions Programmer Analyst; works with end users to define Banner reporting requirements, and creates or re-designs reports based on the reporting requirements. Provides ad hoc reporting upon request. Consults with users to gather information about current operating procedures, program needs, objectives, functions, features, and input and output requirements. Consults with users to prototype, refine, test, and debug programs to meet needs; and prepares specifications and user requirements. Develops test data and/or scripts to test programs and runs tests to find errors and confirm that programs meet specifications. Participates in logical database design; Participates in maintaining system standards based on industry best practices and College policies. Analyzes, designs, develops, tests, and implements new systems, applications programs, and enhancements; Develops flow charts and writes, codes, debugs, and documents computer programs. Modifies current programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements. Writes and maintains technical and procedural documentation, including system diagrams and logic representations, to describe program development, logic, coding, specifications and corrections; and maintains training documentation for new procedures. Provides training to trainers. Coordinates with other programmers regarding program and report revisions. Modifies and maintains software programs written by others. Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about programs. Coordinates with college departments and software support providers for applications including Ellucian Banner, Bosscars, Evisions, APEX, and UC4. Works with other IT staff to ensure that interfaces are working properly and provides backup support to other members of the ASD Team. Other duties as assigned. Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of relevant experience. Higher Education experience; specifically with the Ellucian Banner enterprise system, as well as Oracle databases; SQL; PL/SQL; APEX; PHP; technical writing skills, Argos or other Business Intelligence reporting tool.
