Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Automation Controls Programmer to join our plant services team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining advanced industrial automation systems. Your expertise will drive efficiency and reliability by integrating robotics, PLC systems, human-machine interfaces (HMI), and industrial controls. This position offers an exciting opportunity to optimize manufacturing processes in a fast-paced 24/ 7 environment. Your proactive approach and technical mastery will ensure seamless operation of complex automation equipment, supporting continuous improvement initiatives and adherence to industry standards such as CGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice). Responsibilities Develop, test, and implement automation control programs for industrial equipment using ladder logic (LD), PLC programming, and robot programming techniques. Performs controls modifications and improvements with existing systems. Configure and troubleshoot human-machine interface (HMI) systems to facilitate user interaction with automated processes. Integrate and maintain industrial networks, distributed control systems (DCS), and communication protocols to ensure reliable data flow across manufacturing equipment. Read electrical schematics, blueprints, and mechanical drawings to accurately diagnose issues and perform repairs on PLC systems, industrial electrical systems, and robotic controls. Perform root cause analysis on system failures or inefficiencies, implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime. Collaborate with mechanical engineers and electrical technicians to optimize tooling setups Conduct preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and troubleshooting of industrial controls including PLC installation, repair, calibration, and configuration. Support lean manufacturing initiatives by streamlining automation workflows and reducing waste through continuous process improvements. Leads selection, performance and services with third party consultants and vendors. Monitors and holds vendors to Integrated Service Agreements (ISAs). Creates documentation repository supporting PLC, HMI, Network and automation processes. Coaches and mentors electrical technicians using PLC and HMI development applications for troubleshooting equipment issues. May also assist maintenance technicians in replacing or upgrading technology. Accepts a call-in schedule for after-hours plant automation downtime issues. Experience Proven experience practicing in an industrial or manufacturing engineering role with a focus on automation controls. Extensive knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), including programming in ladder logic (LD) and troubleshooting PLC systems. Hands-on experience with Microsoft servers and Cisco/ Stratix networks preferred. Hands-on experience with Rockwell Factory Talk products preferred. Strong mechanical knowledge complemented by the ability to interpret electrical schematics and blueprints accurately. Skilled in AutoCAD for schematic drawing review or modifications related to automation projects. Experience working within regulated environments following CGMP standards is a plus. Ability to perform root cause analysis efficiently while maintaining safety standards in an industrial setting.
