The CNC Swiss Programmer is responsible for preparing, creating and reviewing Swiss CNC programs, determining tooling, and machine setup support and troubleshooting where applicable for the production team. Further responsibilities include documentation, continuous improvement, method improvement, storage and editing of programs, tool lists, and processes.
What You'll Do Application Development & Optimization:
- Develop, validate, and optimize CNC Swiss programs for aerospace components using Swiss CNC machining centers.
- Define the applications parameters, tooling strategies, cutting conditions, and work-holding solutions to achieve quality, cost, and throughput targets.
- Identify opportunities for cycle time reduction, scrap reduction, and improved repeatability.
Manufacturing Engineering Support:
- Create and maintain detailed documentation, including routings, operation instructions, setup sheets, and standard work.
- Support machinists and production teams in troubleshooting machining issues, quality defects, and equipment performance concerns.
- Collaborate with setup machinists and operators to refine G-code, toolpaths, and machining strategies.
- Work closely with other departments, preparing documentations and quality support.
Tooling & Equipment:
- Select cutting tools, aid in custom cutter design, gauges, and consumables aligned with aerospace requirements.
- Conduct testing of new tooling technologies and lead implementation of improved methods.
- Work closely with machine operators to ensure proper tool usage and adherence to process standards.
Quality & Compliance:
- Ensure the applications meet aerospace standards (AS9100, ITAR, customer-specific requirements).
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conformances.
- Support first article inspections (FAI) and collaborate with Quality on PPAP, FAIR, and documentation packages.
Continuous Improvement:
- Lead Lean and Six Sigma initiatives to reduce waste, improve flow, and enhance productivity.
- Implement Application control methods (SPC, capability studies) to maintain consistent machining performance.
- Drive automation, digital manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 opportunities where applicable. New Product Introduction (NPI):
- Support DFM (Design for Manufacturability) input during quoting and early-stage development.
- Develop the CNC program, plans, tooling needs, and timelines for new aerospace components.
- Participate in cross-functional reviews with Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- CNC Machinist or equivalent AAS degree or 5-10 year's of experience required.
- CNC machining (Aerospace or Medical Device preferred).
- Strong understanding of CNC Swiss, GD&T, machining principles and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated experience with tooling selection, process documentation, and machining optimization.
- Familiarity with AS9100 and aerospace quality standards.
- High level proficiency in CAD/CAM software (Gibbs Cam, Mastercam)
- Knowledge of automation, probing systems, and advanced metrology considered a plus
