ZS Recycling Job Summary ZS Recycling is looking for a dependable and knowledgeable Computer Technician to test, diagnose, repair, and prepare used electronics for resale. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with a wide variety of equipment, including laptops, desktops, workstations, servers, networking equipment, storage devices, and computer components. This position requires someone who can accurately identify equipment, determine its condition, perform thorough testing, and clearly document all specifications, defects, missing parts, and accessories. The technician will work closely with our inventory and e-commerce teams to ensure every item is accurately represented before being listed for sale. Primary Responsibilities
Inspect, identify, test, diagnose, and refurbish used computer equipment.
Work with laptops, desktops, workstations, servers, networking equipment, hard drives, SSDs, RAM, CPUs, GPUs, and other components.
Verify hardware specifications, including model numbers, processors, memory, storage, graphics cards, and installed components.
Test equipment for power, functionality, battery health, charging, ports, Wi-Fi, displays, keyboards, and other applicable features.
Identify BIOS passwords, MDM enrollment, activation locks, encryption, and other restrictions.
Install or reinstall operating systems, drivers, firmware, and required software when necessary.
Diagnose hardware problems and perform repairs or component replacements when practical.
Test storage devices, check drive health, and securely wipe reusable drives according to company procedures.
Grade the cosmetic and functional condition of each item.
Clearly document testing results, defects, damage, missing parts, included accessories, and any untested functions.
Assign or maintain SKUs and keep tested equipment organized throughout the inventory process.
Provide accurate technical information to the e-commerce team for online listings.
Harvest usable components from equipment that cannot be economically repaired. Required Qualifications
Hands-on experience testing, repairing, building, or refurbishing computers and electronic equipment.
Strong understanding of computer hardware, components, and basic troubleshooting.
Ability to identify computer specifications and model information accurately.
Familiarity with Windows installation, drivers, BIOS settings, and diagnostic software.
Ability to recognize and document equipment defects
Basic understanding of networking equipment and servers is preferred.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to communicate clearly with inventory and e-commerce employees.
Dependable attendance and ability to work independently.
Ability to safely lift and move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in computer repair, IT asset disposition, electronics recycling, refurbishment, or an electronics resale warehouse.
Experience working with business-class equipment from Dell, HP, Lenovo, Apple, Cisco, and similar manufacturers.
Familiarity with hard-drive testing and secure data-erasure procedures.
CompTIA A+ or a similar certification is helpful but not required.
Experience preparing technical equipment for eBay or other online marketplaces is a plus.
What We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who is practical, reliable, and honest about what has and has not been tested. Accuracy is extremely important because the information provided by the technician will be used to advertise and sell the equipment online. The right candidate should be able to work efficiently without sacrificing testing quality or documentation.
