IT Support Specialist - II

Job Description

Our client, a Glastonbury CT, supplier of physical technology components needs an experienced IT Support Specialist II to join their IT team and provide technical support across their multi-office engineering environment. They are seeking to hire 2 full time team members. It's a hybrid role with only occasional in-office work time needed, so must reside within commuting distance to the facility. The IT Support Specialist II will provide Tier 2 support for employees, workstations, applications, and IT infrastructure across nine office locations. This position will troubleshoot escalated hardware, software, networking, and access-related issues while supporting a primarily Microsoft-based environment. The ideal candidate has strong troubleshooting skills, a solid understanding of Windows systems, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, networking, and endpoint management, and is comfortable supporting both standard business applications and specialized engineering software. This role requires someone who can independently investigate and resolve technical issues while knowing when to escalate more complex infrastructure problems to senior IT staff. Responsibilities
  • Provide Tier 2 technical support to employees both onsite and remotely.
  • Diagnose and resolve escalated Windows, hardware, software, application, and connectivity issues.
  • Support Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Perform common Active Directory administrative tasks including password resets, account troubleshooting, group membership changes, and user/computer management.
  • Support Windows 10/11 laptops and workstations managed through Microsoft Intune and other IT management tools.
  • Configure, deploy, troubleshoot, repair, and replace Dell laptops, desktops, docking stations, monitors, and Logitech peripherals.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot printers, scanners, multifunction devices, and engineering plotters.
  • Support engineering and business applications including AutoCAD, Bentley products, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe applications , and other specialized software.
  • Troubleshoot application installation, licensing, performance, and connectivity issues.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting and support for Windows Servers and Microsoft Hyper-V virtual environments.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity using a working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, VPNs, and general networking concepts .
  • Assist with troubleshooting network and connectivity issues within a Fortinet/FortiGate environment.
  • Support file shares, mapped drives, permissions, network resources, and printer connectivity.
  • Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding, including workstation preparation, software installation, and account/access configuration.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of support requests, troubleshooting steps, equipment, and resolutions within the IT ticketing system.
  • Follow established IT security policies, procedures, and access-control standards.
  • Escalate server, network, security, or other infrastructure issues to the appropriate senior IT team member when necessary.
  • Assist with IT projects, software deployments, hardware refreshes, office technology upgrades, and other initiatives as assigned.
  • Provide professional, responsive, and customer-focused technical support to employees across the organization.
  • Perform additional IT-related responsibilities as assigned by IT management. Required Skills and Experience
  • CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification required, or at least 5 years of experience in a Tier 2 technical support role.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows 10/11 and Microsoft 365.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and general networking concepts .
  • Experience troubleshooting laptops, desktops, printers, peripherals, and common business applications.
  • Familiarity with Windows Server environments and server-based resources.
  • Experience supporting users and troubleshooting technical issues both remotely and on-site.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently investigate technical issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical employees.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple support requests and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with an IT ticketing system and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Understanding of IT security, confidentiality, and proper access-control practices. Preferred Skills and Experience Experience with any of the following is preferred but not required:

  • Dell business or enterprise hardware

  • PowerShell or basic scripting/automation
  • Microsoft, CompTIA, or other relevant IT certifications Work Environment & Hybrid Schedule This is a hybrid position , with an initial expectation of approximately 3-4 days per week in the office .
The onsite requirement may decrease as the employee becomes familiar with the company's systems, users, applications, and IT environment and demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of the position independently. Hybrid scheduling will remain subject to business needs and management approval. Physical & Additional Requirements
  • Ability to occasionally work outside normal business hours when required for critical IT issues, maintenance, or projects.
  • Ability to lift and move computers, monitors, printers, and other IT equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work at desks, under workstations, in network/server rooms, and other areas necessary to install or troubleshoot IT equipment.
  • Ability to travel between company office locations when necessary.
Travel Requirements Occasional travel to other company offices may be required to support urgent technical issues, equipment failures, office deployments, infrastructure projects, or other situations requiring on-site IT assistance . Travel is not expected to be a routine part of the position and will generally be coordinated based on business and operational needs. Pay:
$33.00 - $36.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
