Job Summary The Desktop Support Technician will provide technical support to faculty, staff, students, and university departments. The role is responsible for troubleshooting hardware, software, networking, and account-related issues while ensuring reliable day-to-day operation of university technology systems. Key Responsibilities Provide Level 1/Level 2 desktop and technical support to faculty, staff, and students. Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows desktops, laptops, printers, monitors, and other peripherals. Troubleshoot Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office 365, Outlook, Teams, browsers, and other university applications. Support Active Directory user accounts, password resets, permissions, and basic Group Policy issues. Configure and troubleshoot desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and classroom/lab technology. Troubleshoot basic network connectivity, Wi-Fi, VPN, printers, and peripheral issues. Provide technical support for computer labs, classrooms, faculty offices, and conference rooms. Assist with imaging, deployment, configuration, and replacement of computers. Install software, security updates, patches, and antivirus/endpoint protection. Create, update, and maintain tickets in the university IT service management system. Escalate complex hardware, network, application, and security issues to appropriate IT teams. Maintain accurate documentation of troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and asset information. Assist with IT asset inventory, equipment moves, and technology refresh projects. Provide excellent customer service and communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users. Follow university IT policies, security standards, and procedures. Required Skills 2+ years of experience in Desktop Support, Help Desk, Technical Support, or IT Support. Strong experience with Windows 10/11 and Microsoft Office 365. Experience with Active Directory, user accounts, password resets, and basic Group Policy. Experience troubleshooting PCs, laptops, printers, monitors, and other peripherals. Basic understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and Wi-Fi troubleshooting. Experience with ticketing systems such as ServiceNow, Jira, Remedy, or similar. Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer-service skills. Ability to work independently and support multiple users and priorities. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting a university, college, school, or higher-education environment . Experience supporting computer labs, classrooms, smart boards, projectors, and AV equipment. Experience with Microsoft Intune, SCCM/MECM, or other endpoint management tools. Experience with ServiceNow or other ITSM platforms. Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD and Microsoft 365 administration. CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft, or similar certifications.
