Level 3 Systems Engineer Focused Technologies Cuyahoga Falls, OH Job Details Full-time $70,000 - $95,000 a year 4 hours ago Benefits Internet reimbursement Mileage reimbursement Health insurance 401(k) Paid time off 401(k) matching Professional development assistance Flexible schedule Retirement plan Qualifications Customer communication GPO Microsoft Exchange Windows VLAN Driver's License Bachelor's degree CompTIA Network+ CompTIA Security+ CompTIA A+ Full Job Description Level 3 Systems Engineer $70,000-$95,000 | Primarily Work From Home | Northeast Ohio About Focused Technologies At Focused Technologies, we help our clients get the most from their technology by keeping their IT environments secure, resilient, and compliant, allowing them to focus on delivering value to their customers instead of dealing with IT problems. Our Level 3 Systems Engineers serve as senior technical resources for both our clients and our internal support team. This role is responsible for resolving complex escalations, designing and implementing technical solutions, completing client projects, improving client environments, and helping develop the technical capabilities of other team members. Our core values guide how we work: Respect the customer. Empower each other. Strive for success. This is a senior technical position. While Level 3 Engineers occasionally provide direct end-user support, the primary focus of the role is advanced troubleshooting, infrastructure, security, projects, technical standards, and escalation support. Key Responsibilities As a Level 3 Systems Engineer, you will be expected to: Serve as a senior escalation point for Level 1 and Level 2 technicians and take ownership of complex technical issues through resolution. Own client communication for assigned issues, including providing timely updates, setting expectations, coordinating next steps, and following through to ensure the issue is fully resolved and the client is informed. Diagnose problems where the root cause may not be immediately apparent and may involve multiple systems, vendors, or technologies. Evaluate client environments holistically and identify underlying infrastructure, configuration, security, or reliability issues rather than relying on temporary fixes. Design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, permissions, and related infrastructure. Design, implement, and troubleshoot Microsoft 365 environments, including Exchange Online, Entra ID, SharePoint, Teams, MFA, Conditional Access, and related security controls. Configure and troubleshoot network infrastructure including firewalls, switches, VLANs, VPNs, routing, wireless networks, DNS, DHCP, and Internet connectivity. Support virtualization platforms, servers, storage, backup systems, and disaster-recovery solutions. Troubleshoot endpoint, server, identity, email, networking, security, and application issues across client environments. Plan and execute technical projects such as server deployments and migrations, Microsoft 365 migrations, network upgrades, firewall replacements, tenant/security improvements, and infrastructure refreshes. Work with third-party vendors and application providers to resolve complex issues and coordinate technical implementations. Review client environments for deviations from Focused Technologies' technical and security standards and develop plans to remediate identified issues. Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements to our internal standards, tools, automation, and service delivery. Create and maintain clear technical documentation for client environments, troubleshooting procedures, and internal standards. Develop tools, scripts, automation, and processes that improve the efficiency and consistency of our support team. Mentor Level 1 and Level 2 technicians and help them develop their troubleshooting and technical skills. Participate in technical planning with project, sales, and leadership teams when advanced technical input is required. Communicate complex technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Participate in an on-call rotation and occasionally perform scheduled evening or weekend work for projects, maintenance, or critical client issues. What Level 3 Means at Focused Technologies At Focused Technologies, Level 3 is more than having advanced technical knowledge. A Level 3 engineer is someone we can trust to take ownership of complex technical problems and projects, determine the right path forward, and see them through to a successful outcome. Level 3 engineers are expected to look beyond the immediate symptom and understand the bigger picture. When presented with an unfamiliar or complex problem, you should be able to investigate the environment, identify the root cause, evaluate potential solutions and their risks, and implement an appropriate solution without requiring step-by-step direction. Being Level 3 also means: Taking ownership. You are responsible for moving an issue or project forward, coordinating with clients, vendors, and other team members as necessary, and following through until the work is complete. Thinking beyond the ticket. Fixing the immediate problem is important, but you should also recognize underlying configuration issues, technical debt, security concerns, or opportunities to prevent the problem from happening again. Making sound technical decisions. You should understand the potential impact of a change, evaluate risk, know when additional testing or input is appropriate, and avoid creating new problems while solving the current one. Handling the unfamiliar. We don't expect anyone to know everything. We do expect Level 3 engineers to know how to research, test, troubleshoot, and work through technologies or problems they haven't encountered before. Designing solutions, not just implementing them. Level 3 engineers help determine how systems should be configured and how projects should be approached—not simply follow an established procedure. Communicating and following through. Strong technical skills need to be paired with strong communication. Clients and team members should understand what is happening, what to expect next, and when an issue has been resolved. Raising the capabilities of the team. Level 3 engineers are escalation resources and mentors for other technicians. When possible, the goal isn't just to resolve an escalation, but to help other team members understand the problem and become better equipped to handle similar situations in the future. Improving our standards. When you identify a better way to configure, secure, monitor, document, or support an environment, we expect you to bring it forward and help turn that knowledge into a repeatable standard for the rest of the organization. Ultimately, a Level 3 engineer should be someone we can give a difficult technical problem or project to and trust that they will figure out what is happening, determine an appropriate solution, understand the consequences of the changes they make, execute the work safely, communicate throughout the process, document the outcome, and follow through to completion.
