Job Description

Job Summary Detection Security Company, Inc. provides fire alarm, security, video surveillance, access control, and monitoring solutions throughout Central Illinois. We are looking for an organized, technically minded person to help our commercial and residential customers identify their needs and move projects from the initial conversation to an approved proposal. This role combines customer relationships, site visits, problem-solving, estimating, and business development. You will work with existing customers and prospective customers, explain available options, prepare proposals, and follow through to earn their business.
Our approach is straightforward:
understand the customer's needs, recommend an appropriate solution, and deliver on our commitments. We offer dependable hourly compensation rather than commission, supporting thoughtful recommendations and a collaborative team approach. Responsibilities Build and maintain relationships with business owners, homeowners, facility managers, contractors, and other customer contacts. Respond to inquiries and develop new business relationships through outreach, referrals, and consistent follow-up. Meet with customers to understand their concerns, priorities, budget, and project goals. Visit homes, businesses, and construction sites to gather measurements, photographs, notes, and other information needed to develop a proposal. Evaluate potential wiring routes and recognize how ceilings, attics, basements, crawl spaces, and building construction may affect installation. Learn our product offerings and how to match equipment and services to customer needs. Learn and apply our estimating methods to calculate material quantities, wire lengths, labor, costs, and pricing. Prepare clear, accurate proposals and explain the recommended scope of work. Follow up on proposals, answer questions, and guide customers through approving and moving forward with a project. Keep complete CRM records, including customer requirements, site conditions, communications, commitments, and next steps. Coordinate with technical and operations staff to verify project details and provide a thorough handoff when work is approved. Manage multiple opportunities while meeting proposal deadlines and follow-up commitments. Skills Previous business-to-business sales or account management experience involving customer needs, proposals, and securing business. Practical construction knowledge and an understanding of how buildings are put together. Ability to assess a space and recognize potential wiring paths, access limitations, and installation obstacles. Strong math skills and comfort working with measurements, quantities, percentages, and detailed calculations. Proficiency with computers, CRM software, spreadsheets, email, and digital documents. Excellent organization, attention to detail, and note-taking skills. Ability to learn technical information quickly and apply it to real customer situations. Clear communication, sound judgment, and dependable follow-through. Ability to manage your time, meet an established work schedule, and keep the team informed of appointments and project progress. Training and Support Previous alarm-industry experience is not required. We will provide training in our products, services, estimating process, and proposal standards, with support from our technical and operations teams as you develop your knowledge. You should arrive with a foundation in customer relationships, construction awareness, technology, and math—and a willingness to learn. How We Measure Success Success means customers receive appropriate recommendations, proposals are accurate and timely, follow-up commitments are met, and approved projects are clearly documented for our installation team. We value strong customer relationships, new business, realistic pricing, accurate estimates, and teamwork.
