Senior Data EngineerJob Description The Senior Data Engineer analyzes large-scale datasets from connected vehicles, with a focus on in-car entertainment, navigation, connectivity, and overall user experience. This role turns complex infotainment and vehicle interaction data into clear insights that drive software improvements, enhance user satisfaction, optimize system performance, and increase engagement with digital services. The Senior Data Engineer partners closely with product and engineering teams to define what data is collected, how it is structured, and how it is used to inform product decisions. Responsibilities
+ Analyze large datasets generated by connected vehicles, concentrating on in-car entertainment, navigation, connectivity, and user experience to identify opportunities for software improvements.
+ Perform analytics and insight generation on user interaction data from in-car infotainment systems, including touch screen usage, voice command effectiveness, and media consumption patterns.
+ Identify trends, usability pain points, and behavioral patterns within infotainment usage data to inform product and design decisions.
+ Define, create, and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure the health, performance, and usage of infotainment features and digital services.
+ Develop, maintain, and enhance dashboards and reporting solutions that provide clear visibility into infotainment KPIs for stakeholders across product and engineering teams.
+ Collaborate with product managers and engineers to translate data-driven insights into actionable recommendations that improve user experience and system performance.
+ Work closely with product managers and engineers to determine what data should be collected from infotainment systems to support analytics and decision-making.
+ Optimize data collection strategies and telemetry from infotainment systems to ensure data quality, completeness, and relevance for analysis.
+ Use SQL, Python, and R to build, refine, and automate data pipelines, queries, and analysis workflows for vehicle and infotainment data.
+ Leverage data visualization tools such as Tableau to design intuitive dashboards and visualizations that communicate complex insights clearly.
+ Utilize analytic platforms such as Amplitude and Firebase to monitor user behavior, feature engagement, and the impact of product changes.
+ Contribute to ongoing improvements in navigation software and voice communication systems through data-backed recommendations.
+ Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure that data engineering solutions align with product goals and technical constraints.
+ Document data models, KPIs, dashboards, and analysis methods to support transparency, reproducibility, and knowledge sharing. Essential Skills
+ Expert-level proficiency in SQL for querying, transforming, and managing large datasets from connected vehicles and infotainment systems.
+ Expert-level proficiency in Python for data analysis, data engineering workflows, and building automation around data pipelines.
+ Expert-level proficiency in R for statistical analysis, data modeling, and advanced analytics on user interaction data.
+ Proven experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau to create clear, insightful dashboards and reports.
+ Proven experience using analytic platforms like Amplitude and Firebase to analyze user behavior, feature usage, and engagement.
+ Strong background in data analysis, with the ability to interpret complex vehicle and infotainment data and derive actionable insights.
+ Hands-on experience in data engineering, including working with large-scale datasets and building robust data pipelines.
+ Experience with vehicle data analytics or similar domains involving telemetry and user interaction data.
+ Demonstrated capability in KPI development, including defining, implementing, and monitoring metrics that reflect product performance.
+ Ability to collaborate effectively with product managers and engineers to align data collection and analysis with product objectives. Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience working with navigation software and understanding how users interact with mapping and routing features.
+ Experience analyzing and improving voice communication systems, including voice command effectiveness and user satisfaction.
+ Familiarity with digital services ecosystems within connected vehicles, such as media, entertainment, and connectivity features.
+ Ability to communicate complex analytical findings in a clear and concise manner to non-technical stakeholders.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and a data-driven mindset, with a focus on improving user experience and system performance.
+ Attention to detail in defining data collection requirements and ensuring high data quality for analytics. Work Environment This role operates in a data-driven, product-focused environment that centers on connected vehicle technologies and in-car infotainment systems. You work closely with product managers and engineers, using tools such as SQL, Python, R, Tableau, Amplitude, and Firebase on a regular basis. The position involves collaborating across disciplines to shape data collection strategies, build dashboards, and support continuous improvement of navigation, entertainment, and voice communication features. Work is primarily performed in a professional office or hybrid setting with access to modern analytics platforms and engineering tools, supporting focused analysis as well as cross-functional collaboration. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Ann Arbor, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $46.00 - $50.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
