Send job Job Details The Raynor Cerebellum Project (RCP) is hiring one or more Research Data Support Specialists to join our Data team. This is the conventional title. But the RCP is anything but conventional and internally some of us are calling this role a "Data Concierge." As you read more, you will understand why. RCP is a philanthropy with the goal of improving the lives of patients with disorders of a part of the brain called the "cerebellum" and doing so soon. We fund multiple clinical teams that are recording extensive data from the brains of human patients who are in the hospital for their health care. We are aggregating the data in a central repository (this is where we need help) and performing machine learning and artificial intelligence analyses to create a foundation model of brain activity.
About the role:
As a Data Concierge you will support the entire data pipeline for one or more of our funded research teams, from data acquisition and meta-data monitoring to final deposition of harmonized data in the RCP data repository. In this role, you'll take ownership of data management work, contribute to technical direction, and partner closely with our data collection teams, RCP scientists, and data stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions. This is a role for scientists who can operate independently, manage ambiguity, and apply knowledge of data management, coding, and neuroscience with minimal oversight. It offers opportunity for growth and a potential path to a data analysis role. Why is this so important? Because data is the lifeblood of RCP and our research partners need to feel like the sharing of their data is seamless and even enjoyable. You will report to a leader on the RCP Data team. Final team and/or location placement will be determined during the interview process.
Work Location:
This is an in-person position at our Chapel Hill, NC or Fort Worth, TX offices. It will include extensive travel and may involve embedding at one of our funded research sites for a period of 1-3 months.
Compensation:
Compensation will be competitive with market standards for the role. If you are joining us from another similar role, we target 10% higher than your current compensation. Compensation is not a limiting factor here. If you are right for the team, we will make the numbers work.
Responsibilities:
Oversee data collection and proper data and meta-data documentation; ensure that sites perform RCP behavioral and neural data collection protocols properly during their recordings in the epilepsy monitoring unit. Maintain, deploy, and possibly help to develop or customize a pipeline for transforming data from the local format at your assigned site(s) into a harmonized format developed using the Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) extended for iEEG data. Perform quality control checks on data, both as it is collected and as part of the transmission to the data repository. Assist with labeling of experimental datasets to identify behaviors being performed by the patients during neural recordings. Provide feedback to RCP teams on the function of the RCP's equipment and software deployed at funded sites. Collaborate closely with data science peers and members of RCP teams. Help ensure data science processes and outputs align with broader RCP and team strategies and contribute to improving data science practices, tooling, and documentation
Requirements:
2+ years of experience in the techniques of data science as applied to time series data, either through education, employment in a relevant industry, or both. 2+ years of experience using Python and/or R to query, analyze, transform, and manipulate data. Experience building data models, using advanced analytics methods, statistical modeling, and/or data processing. Knowledge of or previous work experience in neuroscience.
Bonus points:
Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative or technical field Share this job Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Apply now
