Traveling Commissioning Leader - Data CentersPosition OverviewWe are seeking a seasoned Traveling Commissioning Leader to manage and execute commissioning activities for critical data center projects nationwide. This hands-on leader will travel between sites to plan, coordinate and lead system verification, functional testing, and start-up activities for electrical, mechanical and controls systems. The role focuses on ensuring systems meet design intent, operational reliability and compliance with client requirements, schedules and safety standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead and execute all phases of commissioning for data center projects, including pre-commissioning, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, and turnover.
Develop, review and implement commissioning plans, test procedures (FAT/SAT), commissioning schedules and risk mitigation strategies.
Coordinate multi-discipline teams of contractors, vendors and client representatives to ensure timely and compliant completion of commissioning activities.
Perform hands-on testing and troubleshooting of critical systems including UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, HVAC/chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, chillers, cooling distribution, fire suppression and BMS/controls.
Prepare and review commissioning documentation: test reports, non-conformance reports, punch lists, as-built records and O&M handover packages.
Serve as the primary client point-of-contact on-site; present test results, status updates and technical recommendations to stakeholders and senior management.
Ensure compliance with safety, quality and regulatory requirements on every site; promote a culture of safety and enforce site-specific safety protocols.
Mentor and train junior commissioning engineers and technicians; provide technical guidance and promote best practices across projects.
Manage travel logistics and adapt to variable project schedules, including extended on-site assignments and night/weekend work as required.
Support lessons-learned processes and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize commissioning workflows and reduce rework.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent technical discipline preferred.4+ years of progressive experience in data center construction and commissioning, with demonstrated leadership of multi-site projects.
Proven experience with commissioning processes and documentation (commissioning plans, FAT/SAT, functional test procedures, punch lists, O&M manuals).In-depth knowledge of data center critical infrastructure: UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, HVAC and controls systems.
Strong troubleshooting and hands-on testing skills with ability to interpret schematics, single line diagrams, P&IDs and BAS sequences of operation.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively (domestic) and work on-site for extended periods; flexible schedule to support project needs.
