Employees being promoted to a higher classified position receive the minimum for the position or a pay rate adjustment of 8% whichever is greater.
All regular positions also entitle the employee to several benefits including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement which is largely paid by New Mexico Tech for the employee and dependents.

JOB SUMMARY:
The New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (NMBGMR) is seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) to join the Data Services team. The successful candidate will work as part of the Data Services team to design, develop, secure, and maintain a variety of local and cloud-based database management systems and databases to support research scientists, staff, and a wide range of external stakeholders. This position plays a key role in the ongoing efforts to modernize our data infrastructure, ensuring high-quality data that supports the Bureau's mission of improving data access, transparency, and interoperability. The DBA will collaborate closely with full-stack developers, product managers, program managers, IT, end users, and others to ensure that data and database-related services are reliable, responsive, technically sound, and meet the needs of the Bureau and our external partners. On-site, hybrid, and remote options are available.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Database Development:
In collaboration with other Data Services staff, assists with technical/schema design, query development, data pipelines, feature implementation, normalization/optimization, integration, legacy database migration, QA/testing. Work closely with all stakeholders to determine requirements and manage the full project lifecycle using common industry methodologies/best practices.
Database Management:
Maintain and support databases in Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cloud SQL; responsible for maintenance, monitoring, replication, performance/availability, compute/storage capacity planning, virtual machine management, backups/recovery, security, and troubleshooting. Maintain a working knowledge of current best practices and emerging trends in database technologies and management.
Web & Middleware Development:
Depending on skill set and project needs, may assist Data Services full- stack web developers with designing complex queries, forms, API's, and code to facilitate the use of data by the public and stakeholders outside the bureau through the bureau's website and web services.
