Looking for someone to come in and continue to the great effort and be the IT Manager as the company continues to grow and expand. What You'll Do As the IT Services Manager you will be responsible for maintaining the company's IT systems including internet modem/routers, VPN switches, VOIP phone system, WIFI, Local NAS Servers, Software subscriptions, User PCs and Laptop device servicing, Antivirus, low level hardware repairs/upgrades. Office Locations This position can allow for some remote work for activities that can be accomplished via remote login but will be very much physical presence in the beginning to become familiar with systems and operations. There will be need for physical presence from time to time at the office locations depending on issues and projects: Downtown Charlottesville (primary), DC Metro Area, and Richmond. With engineering staff present in each office, employees can assist in physically rebooting devices, changing cables, checking equipment with direction from you (yes, we can skip the "is there power" step). There may be opportunities to adjust which office houses the primary server equipment to adjust which office is the "primary" office for IT.. In the beginning, travel to Charlotteville will be required to serve immediate needs for onboarding and training.
- Charlottesville (Original office and current primary server equipment and processing location): Work in the heart of Downtown Charlottesville, just a short walk to the historic Downtown Mall. Enjoy easy access to over 120 shops, 30 restaurants, and the Sprint Pavilion.
DC Metro Area:
Work in our DC Metro office, a short walk from the Dunn Loring Metro Station in Fairfax. You'll be close to fantastic dining, shopping, and entertainment options, with access to an in-house café for days you'd like to stay in the office. All without the headache of actual DC.
Richmond:
Plenty of parking to get in and out without fuss. Near Johnston Willis Hospital. Primary Responsibilities 2RW has a 3rd party consultant that can be used for some items depending on candidates' familiarity with different aspects of the systems listed below. Intent is to shadow current IT manager to learn all systems when possible. Core/Immediate Needs
Internet Service Management:
be able to troubleshoot and monitor incoming network services at each office location. Reach out to service providers if needed to resolve issues determined to be related to incoming network. Offices have redundant services for failover where available.
Server Management:
be able to manage local NAS storage devices and access for all company users. Be able to troubleshoot and monitor access issues as well as backups/failures.
VPN:
be able to maintain and monitor VPN connections between offices and repair tunnels/access when there are issues.
- Phone system: Be able to maintain and monitor company VOIP phone system.
Antivirus:
Monitor and maintain central antivirus software for the company. Monitor
Software:
Ensure all software licenses are current, active, and subscriptions renewed. Reach out to vendors and providers where required to resolve licensing issues. Assist employees with basic troubleshooting (things like install corruption, broken updates, etc).
Individual PC Operation:
Be able to troubleshoot and repair software and minor hardware issues with individual PCs/Laptops.
FTP:
Maintain and monitor local FTP we host for sharing large files
- Maintain a list of company IT assets and monitor life expectancy/upgrade costs/budgets to present to leadership.
- Printer/copier vendor communication. Yes, printers suck and the bane of all IT existence. We lease our copiers and outside of basic troubleshooting/connection to PCs, be able to work with the leasing companies to keep the printers humming (we don't print much these days so not a major task). No large format printers to worry about.
- Document MOPs and SOPs for repeatability and calculated adjustment to operations. Growth Potential/Other Systems As 2RW grows we are open to options to adjust IT operations based on current industry trends and equipment. Some possible areas of potential focus are:
- Cloud storage vs local
- AI deployment (best practices). We have several employees who are users and a couple who have dabbled in the dark arts of building some low level AI Agents with open source software. We are looking for someone who can bounce ideas off without going full Skynet.
- Ticketing system for opening and tracking issues to be able to assign priorities and plan repairs.
- Be ready to understand how the engineers use software day to day and how to improve usage or extract advanced features to aid in production.
- Access/security/NVR if desired, but not a priority.
- As usual with IT, there are times of upgrades, PC builds and software deployments but then there are downtimes to play under the hood with software/hardware to push the boundaries. We are open to hearing what you think you can bring to the table.
- Since we are engineers, we are always willing to learn and assist with needs/infrastructure.
Our Electrical engineers are always eager (some more than others) to get hands dirty and pull cables and crimp some RJ45s if a need arises. Qualifications/Experience Documented history of at least 6 years IT experience in similar role. Support for construction/design firms helpful to understand the unique challenges of specialized software. Experience with the following hardware is a plus: NAS systems and their associated software Windows VPN network switch tunnels/site to site VOIP telephone systems Experience with the following software a plus Autodesk (CAD and REVIT) Bluebeam BigTime (time tracking software)
